Is $200 too expensive for my first service on my bike. Is a yamaha virago 250 and has just clock 1300 km's, I went in to get a ball part figure and left quite suprised ..............hhhhmmmm or is this the welcome to the world of bike and expenses......

My 150cc scooter is generally around $130-150 each 2000 km

$200 is about right (in fact cheap).

The other half pays more than that for a service on her cage!

I paid about $160 for my first on my GT250R in Hamilton if that helps. That covered everything, mosty of it was labour as much as I can remember.

That sounds about right..... if the shop does the lot...
I got quoted about $250 for a service on my VIRAGO last year.

But you can do a lot of your own service....

Change your own oil and filter. Filter ($16) every second oil change.
Lubing the cables.
Lube the chain every 500km and clean it down thoroughly and relube it every 3000 km.



Have you got the little OWNERS manual?
Read that in the middle is a couple of pages of what you should be checking and doing.

Ya gotta remember that their labour rate is probably around the $60 per hour mark so that makes up alot of your cost, the consumables are worth bugger all.

Thanks everyone for your reply I can relax now to know the price is ok. I would prefer to take to a shop so when I sell I can show a service history.

The service history is a good thing to have for resale value.........and considering the cost to replace an engine or any other part the service is good value for quality assurance, also gives you piece of mind in regards to bike safety and reliability when riding a fair distance.
