I want... no, need a 600, like now

First of all, I got my full on Thursday (yuss!)

So yesterday I went to test ride a bigger bike. Firstly, a Hyosung with Cycleworks pipe, loved it. Secondly an 03 ZX6R, and I'm still on a high after 24 hours

Now I really really want a 600, only I'm on a grand total of 0 dollars, and one RG is too roughed up to bother trading in and needs a fair bit of work to get it's warrant (ending this month) and the other is in parts (I have plans to restore it to sell but I'm at school and i work afterschool and weekends so what time I have at home I tend to use as recovery)

Is finance as big of a no-no as my parents and my non-biker/good at saving money friends believe it to be? I'm only 17 so I'm going to need to convince my parents to sign up for finance so I need to have some good strong points to say to them (I would ask to borrow money off them, but they're spending it all on my brother and his motocross racing). Also, know of any cheap 600s around? What's the best <2005 bike to go for?

Big ups to TSS once again, great bunch of dudes. But it's somewhat scary how effective their salesmenning worked

Ahh, the joy of the first ride on a big bike. I know that hooked feeling

A money making suggestion for you, spend the time you normally spend in the KB arcade working in a real job

Finance is a big ... problem especially if you can't take it on your own e.g. the parental units need to be involved ... this means when you f-u they have to pay .. and well .. they get the final word then

If you're working after school and weekends then sounds like you're earning ... so saving what you earn is a start.

A couple of constructive thoughts on your dilemma. 600's are in demand so that means they hold their prices and that means ouch. I went looking hard on TradeMe and you don't seem to get much worth havng (ie needing lots of maitenance costs) below $3,000. Mine cost $3,200 and I couldn't be happier. I don't want a bigger bike, I can go plenty fast on this one {har har har}. So it's not a pretty bike (well it might be to some) but it's a serious road contender.

The next class to consider is the 400's. There's not many around, which is why I ended up with a 600. Those that I did see were a bit ratty but cheap. A couple of them frightened the shoit out of me they were so fast. So in terms of performance, they're a good step up from the 250's until you can afford something bigger.

Finance is a killer. You buy a $3,000 bike and it costs like $7,500 before you own it ... there's just got to be better ways.

I've got 2 shit jobs already, and I don't want to quit school to work full time at a super market (like some people I know have to pay off their cars). I hardly spend much time at the arcade, i simply go onto one game, win it, and done

I'm not using my money on anything else. I haven't got a social life so there's no demanding girl or parties spent drinking, all my money is going towards keeping the RG in commuter spec so i can get to work and school. It's not like i even get much chance to enjoy riding the RG

At least if i got a 600 i'd enjoy something in my life

I don't need a new one, and I'm only earning 120 a week as it is

Then lose the emotional attachment and save yourself the heartache in the long run. Start saving and get something when its a viable option, things are going to be many times more expensive on a 600 than with a 150.

    Hey dude,

We've all been there. Patience grasshopper. You've (hopefully) got a long riding career ahead of you - so plenty of time to make your way through the ranks to 600cc / 1000cc Nirvana.

Think of some money-spinning ideas like lawn-mowing, car washes, garage sales, whatever.

Failing that, you're young and fresh - consider man-whoring? :

Something else to remember about financing a bike, is that it will need to be insured.

Plenty of good 80's 750's for under $3000 if you don't mind getting a rough one.

Put you're head down and save save save......

Remember that you're wants are different from you're needs..... You WANT a 600..... At the moment... You have a bike.... So getting another one isn't exactly a need..... Its just another on going set of bills....

Don't go finance.... As someone pointed out you are so much better paying cash..... Easier to bargain..... And its one payment... Not a whole heap you have to worry bout all the time.....

Just get into the routine of saving.... Its hard but the satisfaction of knowing you saved hard to be able to own what you have lasts for a very long time... and believe me.... You take a lot more pride in what you own when you know for a fact how hard you have worked to get there....

    Patience is the key...
