it'd be great to see a few more on horseback - they do that here in Perth from time to time ......... s'excellent public relations apart from anything else ....

Yith. But even better - WHY do not the cops use bike cops for other-than-traffic departments ?

When a burglar breaks into your house and you call the Police and they say they will be there in an hour cause they are on foot you will see my point.

Also Downtown Police Station does a lot more than controlling a few drunks.

I didn't say all of them, but a much increased presence on the streets is required, not just downtown or newmarket, the streets. Mind you, I've never seen a plod in newmarket and I lived and worked there for years.

If a cop made it in an hour on foot when we were burgled I'd have been delighted.

It would be considerably quicker than the week it took in his Holden. Especially given the cop shop was about 500 yards away.

We had a discussion at the lunchroom today about cops with a group of about 12. There were three distinct groups of people:

    a) the people who think the cops are ok - they have a few issues like staffing, PR, and the odd bad egg but over all things are ok.
These were the normal run of the mill people (ie mr and mrs jones with 2.5 kids running the rat race).

    b) the people who didn't respect the organisation
The following personality types made up the b's: free-spirited, anti-authoritarian, crims, or people who had some negative run-in at some stage.

    c) people who really respect and admire the cops, and say they would like to have been a cop.
These people all expressed how cool it would be to be able to bash people, have high speed pursuits, and well, bash people.

This survey was brought to you buy kolmar brunton and the letter J.

Thats' well known - Psycologists are very aware that people with problems with the way they deal with power gravitate towards policing.

Its no co-incidence that schollum and his pals like to put the ladies in handcuffs before they bonk 'em.

It takes a certain type of personality to actually WANT to exercise control over other people, and people with that particular personality commonly seek jobs like the Police.

Downtown does walk the beat, there is also a beat station at Newmarket.

You may of never seen them but that doesnt mean they dont walk it, were just a bit thin on numbers.

If you think that cops should get out of their "gas guzzling" holdens and walk more your probably forgetting that the moment you take cops out of a car they have an extremely limited area that they can respond to in good time.

be there in an hour? where is that, can I move there? I get a here is a claim number for your insurance for vehcile break ins. house break ins are more like a few days. One must remember that the police is like everywhere else, there are people dedicated to it and some that are incompitent/corrupt. same as every where.

Sorry dude, there are less and less cop-shops with their own bars - the faceless management don't approve of them and think they are inappropriate for a police station yadda yadda yadda.......

Judging by that attitude it seems they would rather have cops going to public bars to have their after-work drinks. (or going to bike rallies?? )
