And it's backfiring on the public already as some potential sexual offence victims are now unwilling to come forwards because of "those sex charges against the police, I mean, how do I know I can trust them and they won't do something to me"

Nice one media, ya REALLY helped out both parties here eh?
Garggh. I just spent a not inconsiderable portion of my remaining span in this Vale of Tears reading the Report (y know , THE report, the one released today)

I want a medal and a stiff drink . Several stiff drinks

What a turgid dreary PC storm in a beige teacup.

In 25 years , out of a force of some 9000 people, a large proportion male, they managed to find a grand total of 313 complaints. Not all of which stood up to scrutiny.

I want to lay a complaint. Fraudulent abstraction of life.

ofcourse , you probably always paid your taxes on time, and say please and thank you.

whilst i do not condone speeding,(depends on the situation) its a fact that everyone has exceeded the speed limit some place or time.
Yes I have and yes I do, thank you...

Difference is, when I get a ticket, I don't whinge about it. My fault, my problem, end of story. I don't get bent out of shape about it like the Dovers on here. Life mysteriously goes on.....

    You're a fuckin idiot aren't you Pat?

You can't seem to grasp that one ticket in 10 years is not my motivation for thinking that the pigs are a bunch of useless dicks. I think you need to build a bridge.

Oh yeah, I forgot... "a few minor convictions..." but you keep harping on about the one ticket... get over it, it was sooooooooo last year, remember?

My bridge is rock solid... yours is the problem... Rebuild it.

Will you two stop squabbling. I guess Dover has some excuse since I don't suppose he's getting any yet.

    returning to THE REPORT.

I strongly disagree with this bit
Dual standards with respect to on-duty and off-duty behaviour
7.19 It seems that many police forces struggle with the issue of dual standards with respect to appropriate on-duty and off-duty behaviour. Officers frequently attempt to draw a very clear line between the two, and argue that what an individual does off duty, in terms of sexual behaviour or other moral issues, is no business of the police management. Professor Bayley told me that in America a sworn police officer is a police officer at all times, and his or her behaviour should always be able to withstand public scrutiny.(889) This principle also applies in other parts of the State sector in New Zealand.(890)
Application of this philosophy may be seen to curtail the freedom of police
officers to engage in activities that are legal but, if widely known, would bring the police into disrepute; however, in my view that is part of the price police officers pay in their choice of career.
I reckon that a cop's entitled to a personal life same as anyone else.

Like hell. Go back a few posts and look at my bitch about getting a ticket for 147kmh and then seeing the same copper tearing up and down a surban area [50kmh] doing wheelie's and well over 100kmh.
If you think that sort of behaviour is acceptable your certifiable.

Police behaviour needs to be beyond reproach at ALL times.

Especially if they want to discipline a copper for arresting a tagger whilst off-duty. Can anyone say "double standards"?

Whatever Helen's buddys cooked up in this report, I'd still trust a waay higher percentage of coppers than polifuckinticians.

drunk guy with a car full of kids - he's consuming straight whiskey while driving, bouncing off cars parked on the roadside. off duty cop sees him. next time the guy stops (crashed into the back of a truck - trying to untangle and drive away again) off duty cop (with his own kids in his car) ID's himself, restrains drunk, gets injured in ensuing fight. drunk guys kids turned out have been kidnapped and he was on his way to the river to drive into (note subsequently found at his home address and e-mail to mother of kids).

should off-duty cop have intervened? a ministerial complaint (that's ABOVE a PCA) that took 3 years to complete found ...................................

And oddly enough the 'polys' are the only people that can garner a general election vote. Never mind July 4th, or even February 6th, give some serious consideration to July 14th and break out your knitting.

You would expect the proof reader was older than 14 for that amount of cash.
