It had speed readouts while round the track, the car held better mid and entry corner speed but couldnt match the bike out of the corner. All depends on track and rider/driver really.

Yo' quite right! However, I also know that if one considers what are the highest performing two and four wheeled vehicles, ie: MotoGP and F1, the F1 cars are quicker around any track. Their braking ability actually ripples the surface and the G-forces they can pull in cornering and braking far outweigh the bikes. You need to know the equivalent performance capabilities of machine and rider/driver and for this reason there will always be the debate.

Australian MC News did a track race between a Gixxer 1000K5 and a 911 Turbo at Wakefield Park in July 05. The Porsche had the ceramic brake upgrade option which cost more than the entire GSX-R! Bike was about a second per lap faster and was actually quicker through some corners (but slower through most of them). It won because of its enormous acceleration advantage over the turbo Porsche (doesn't that sound cool having an enormous accleration advantage over a 911 turbo?). Makes for a good read if you can find the back issue.

I guess this has been shown before plenty of times, but it shows most of us haven't got a clue about what makes a fast vehicle.....we have so many preconcieved ideas and are always biased to our own favorites.

The problem with electric vehicles is not the motor. Its always going to be the power supply. I've got a couple of ideas for electric motorbikes at the moment. But its a bit of a cross roads as i want atleast 72v supply (otherwise the acceleration for a sport bike it would be worth it) - and i also want a mileage of 1-2 hours continuous use without charging. Also by running solar panels i would have issues providing the voltage.
Over in the states they have 4kW electric bikes doing 12 sec 1/4's

I'm going to throw my 0.5 cents into the thread by telling a little story...

What got me into bikes in the first place was cruising around Sydney on the back of my uncle's Thunderace 10 years ago. After stopping off at Bondi and admiring the talent, we set off back towards the harbour tunnel and a 911 turbo (993) pulled up beside us at the lights and wanted to flex his (small) muscle.

    End results were:
    - One perfect launch (front wheel about 10cm off the tarmac all thru 1st),
    - One novice pillion realising the grab-rail doesn't really cut it in those situations,
    - And one 911 left dropping back rather quickly behind the Yammy.

    Bikes FTW!

    Its the Principle!!

I say never let the facts get in the way having a go at cage dweller.

The $$ to Fun Ratio will always stack up on the side of a bike. Know anyone who bought a new car for less than $15K
(if there is one) that could put a permanent smile on your face??

    Yup -
0-100 in under 3 secs on a bike about $25,000
0-100 in under 5 secs in a car about $1,200,000

Cars willl win on the track. they have all the room they need. On the road bikes are much better. Cars also have the aerodynamics to keep them on the road for better high speed cornering. But bikes are more fun and cooler.

some of the minis that are racing will have faster lap times then the turbo porshes around puke

It was BOTS weekend and I was coming through the Clevedon- Maraetai rd and a guy in a Porshe turbo overtook a car than I overtook said car , then the guy nails it , so I thought to myself this could be fun and started chasing him , I knew I couldn`t catch him but he certainly couldn`t lose me , he was braking in corners ( I wasn`t ), so we were pootling along at about 160 came around a corner , and then it happened , thats right a line of cars , both of us hard on the picks , and I shit you not the guy in the Porshe puts his hand out the window and gives me a wave , Man did I feel all giddy ,anyway as I passed him I slowed down lifted my visor and said "Nice car" he gave me another wave ,and then I was gone , his girlfriend was laughing , that was so cool . True story

I loaned my VTR out the other week and had to take the missus RG150 to work. Coz it's a 2 smoker and needs plenty of revs to take off at the lights some geezer in a sporty nissan thought I was revving for a race. We were neck and neck for a fair distance before I realised that a side on collision wouldn't be good for my legs so eased off as the road narrowed.

Gave him a friendly wave 5 seconds later as I lane split past him!

I was hoping if some of you would have something to say about this. I offered him a challenge and his response was "we dont have a new 911 turbo at the moment" and I asked would you accept if we got ahold of a new one, his reply was "Im sure management would intervene if we did". I argued with him for quite a while and he still held his opinion that the Porsche would beat a big bike, I would be bloody happy if someone would be able to prove hime wrong. And im sure he'd scuttle off with his tail between his legs if Porsche lost as well.

You say you've just started a new job at Porsche. Getting into a shit fight with a salesman as to whether your employer's product would be beaten by a bike is an interesting tactic for securing your long-term employment chances!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
