Renegade - The fact that you don't wear a helmet might well have an effect on me. If you crash and your injury is more severe because of the lack of head protection, your hospital bill will be significantly higher. And so your irresponsibility will use up extra tax that I have paid. I guess that I would then be pleased if your injury was instantly terminal. Like some others on this thread, I strongly believe in personal responsibility. The only way I can accept your actions is if you are prepared to pay for all medical costs that result from your injury. I suspect that this is not the case.

sounds profound but won't wash unless you have a similar rant about people that smoke, people that drink, people that skydive or jaywalk or mountainclimb or have unprotected sex - or - or - or ...................................... you wish ALL of those folks 'terminal' you'd empty the planet quick smart!

This is the "best practice argument", and it makes good sense.

Its the same arguement that will be used to ban motorcycles altogether.

    Because.. motorcycles

Are inherently unstable... offer poor collision protection... have excessive power to weight ratios... require a higher skill level than other vehicles.. are hard to see... crash if even a single wheel loses traction..

"best practise" applied to personal transport means a Volvo.

I do have the same attitude to all those issues but I would be chastised by the moderators for not sticking to the thread. I have never smoked (well not quite right but pretty close-I have never purchased my own on a regular basis and certainly not consumed for the last 30 years), I drink and accept the consequences have skydived, jaywalked etc etc and hate nanny state. Do I take it from your comment that you support the action of the subject rider?

You managed ickle kiddie-winks and kindly grannies. See if you can link speeding to global warming, the plight of the whales and the Islamist militia masscre of animists in Darfur.

Here's my opinion on the matter:

Riding without a helmet is just plain stupid, but its up to that person to wear it or not. They will get their just desserts.

Riding dangerously fast with a pillion on the back with no helmet on shows a severe lack of personal responsibility and brain cells. The bike isnt registered at all, has no WOF (is it safe? Will it kill an innocent biker on the road when the brakes fail?). That biker does not deserve to ride anything more than a 3rd olds tricycle.

Hopefully they get caught, and the bike gets impounded then sold off to someone who actually is responsible/has a brain. Or given back to its rightful owner....

Good on you for reporting it, I would have done the same thing.

Oh, and posting with one hand really bites..

Me? I think we are over-legislated to hell and back..

Me? I wonder why governments are so busy introducing pieces of daft and unenforcable 'thou shalt nots' like the anti-smacking bill that they don't have time to deal with the fundemental problems facing our society

Me? I think it's time that governments stopped treating citizens like kids and treated them with the respect due to those that pay their over-inflated salaries and perks

Me? I wear protective gear by choice - renegade master chooses not to .. we are BOTH consenting adults and, unless and until such time as ALL less safe lifestyle-choices are made illegal then HIS personal choice of headgear should be as legally-valid as mine.

because for me this isn't about helmet/no helmet - it's a civil liberty issue .........

and Me? I happen to think that the government is taking increasingly diabolical liberties with the rest of us in that area!

Or am i to infer from YOUR comment that you appreciate being increasingly 'nannied' by a bunch of uncaring fools that can't get their priorities straight??

In that case, in reality, we agree.
