after last year and my previous experiences of epic events i wont bother going down. Its just not worth the effort. Some rate this ride as the best trail ride in NZ but for me it would be some where near the bottom with the taupo trail blazer rides close behind again.

I will however try for the Waiuru 2 day ride, that looks like a pearler. The eastern and western sides of the mountain are both very different.

It was last year, still a good ride though. It's the tough ones you remember.

i dunno if me and my Dakar honda have enough experiance for that! I'm guessing its pretty boggy and cold? is there a website or something? could be a bit of fun, I'd just have to get my old man a bike too!

Yep i will be going. Looking forward to it. But i realy hope the weather is OK! Not looking forward to 1000 bikes trying to get up a soggy hillclimb making it complete Sludge.. But then you dont want it too dry either. Too much dust with that many bikes!

I would prefer if it was limited to say, 50 riders.. :P Less people to get in the way! haha. But nah, its going to be awesome!

Hopefully after last year the organises have learnt a lesson and this year it should be much better even if the weather does turn to custard!

My best advice to newbies would be to have something warm to wear with them in your packs in case it does turn shit! Last year I nearly froze to death!

They way I look at it, is it can't be any worse than last year, so it should be all good!

    re desert storm

first couple of years it was good, would not go as far as to say the best ride ever, been heaps better rides around, but still good value back then,, by far the biggest number of riders ever on a trail ride

we camped one year, and did the motel wrecking piss drinking thing the following year, I think numbers should be restricted a bit more and not a ride for unprepared newbies, heed the wooly warning if weather looks shitty...
but still a good challange for the harder types who like it wet and slippery(the ride I mean) some potenial fuel issues for 2 smoke riders
imho about 7 out of 10. for value

Oh yeah and if your silly enuff to go S/Hway one to get there ,watch your trailer speed limit on the desert rd , much money to be made by they normally hunt in packs.

The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
    my own fault really.
