So extends his over all lead a little more.

I have no idea why they haven't posted the womens results yet as the race was a coupel of hours ago - slack.

This is his worst round this year, not even on the podium with 5th overall.

So that now leaves him with a reduced lead over 2nd place of 89 points.

Slack gits at youthstream havn't even updated the womens results so I have no idea how Katherine went ????

Coppins in Sweden.

Factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider, Josh Coppins has experienced his toughest GP of the 2007 World Motocross championship at a re-designed Uddevalla circuit in Sweden.

Suffering from a bout of flu coming into the event, Coppins knew his goal would be to limit any loss of points in the MX1 title chase. He battled to get a quick jump in the first moto with a newly laid gravel start and lost his rhythm in the opening laps as riders were jostling for positions. Coppins settled in 6th place and focused on catching championship rival Steve Ramon. He pushed past the Belgian with four laps to go and secured 4th spot at the checkered flag.

Coppins missed out on a much needed good start in moto 2 and had his work cut out from the time the gate dropped. He traded positions with Tanel Leok and Billy McKenzie losing time to leaders Ken de Dycker and Steve Ramon. With Ramon moving to the front in the later stages of the race, Coppins posted a 6th place finish, losing championship points to the Belgian.

“It’s been a bad weekend for me,” admitted Coppins. “I had no physical power and never felt good all weekend - I just struggled. The other guys were all really fast and were attacking and I couldn’t retaliate. I didn’t get good starts in any of the moto’s which didn’t help out all. I have managed to limit the amount of points lost and still have a comfortable lead but am disappointed with today.”

The New Zealander still holds the championship red plate with an 89 point advantage over Belgium’s Steve Ramon, going into the 10th round which will be held in Faenza, Italy in two weeks time.

Katherine Prumm was also at Uddevalla for Round 2 of the Women's World Motocross Championship. Prumm (Molson Kawasaki KX250F) was 2 seconds behind Germany's Stephanie Laier (KTM) in the first timed practice.


A poor start in the first race cost her and she had to settle for third, behind Laier and France's Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki). She then won the next race easily, taking the day's overall honours.


Joining her on the Swedish podium was Lancelot, who was 2nd and Maria Franke (Germany), third.


Lancelot is the new championship leader, taking over from previous leader Larissa Papenmeier (Germany, KTM), who managed only fourth overall in Sweden on Sunday. Prumm is now only one point off the championship lead.


Laier, Germany's pride and joy, who trains under Stefan Everts and Pit Beirer with the KTM Red Bull German Team crashed in the second moto and was taken to hospital with concussion.


The third and final round will be in Lierop, The Netherlands, on 02 September.


The week before Prumm was at Round 3 of the Australian Women's Championship in Toowoomba where she made a clean sweep of both Motos. Ashley Bates (Kawasaki) finished 2nd on the day, and also on a Kawasaki, Stacey Griffiths placed 3rd. Taupo's Emma Davis (Yamaha) was 4th.

The Championship's final standings are: K Prumm 150 - 1, A Bates 118 - 2, K Gillespie 115 - 3, E Davis 100 - 4, A Barton 78 - 5.

The man is a legend!!!!

He had a crap start in about 10th place at lap 1 (I will have to check out the lap chart in the morning), and clawed his way up to second place to be just 4seconds behind Pourcel at the end.

The last 5 laps he must have taken about 20 secs off the lead.

Ramon 8th and Philipparts 6th.

So extends his lead again after the first moto by 9 points.

Off to watch the Moto GP now (and sleep tomorrow).

Josh Coppins more than 100 points clear in MX1 championship.

Factory Yamaha Rinaldi racer, Josh Coppins, has posted a solid 2-2 result at the Italian MX GP in Faenza to extend his MX1 championship lead to 107 points. The Kiwi rode two smart races under scorching conditions, on a fast technical circuit only 2 hours from the team’s base in Parma.

Locking elbows as the gate dropped for the first moto, Coppins lost his advantage of a good start and was in for a tough race. He was well out of the top ten on lap one as he tried to be patient and pick his passing lines. Championship rival, Steve Ramon, had an equally bad start and was losing ground as Coppins put his head down and started his attack on the very fast and technical Faenza circuit. By the halfway mark he had clawed his way back to 6th spot but it was the closing minutes of the 35 minute + 2 lap moto that were the most impressive. While the riders in front were tiring under the scorching heat, Coppins strung together his most effective laps of the race to rocket into second spot. Frenchman, Sebastien Pourcel, took his first career moto win with Coppins right behind, gaining valuable championship points over Ramon.

Certain not to make the same mistake as in the first moto, Coppins made sure of his jump and was just ousted out of the hole-shot by Italian, David Philippaerts. With Sebastien Pourcel sneaking by ‘Lizzard’ settled in third before planning his attack on Philippaerts. Ten minutes into the moto he made his move and kept Philippaerts at bay before pulling a comfortable gap to settle in second. Pourcel deservedly won the second moto with Coppins a few seconds adrift.

“I always come to every race trying to win. If I can’t do that then I need to make sure that I’m on the podium and that’s what I did today. I didn’t focus at the start of the first moto and changed a few things which I shouldn’t have – I tried something a little bit different but it didn’t work and that made it a really hard race for me. I had to push quite hard in the first moto and that cost quite a lot of energy but I thought rather give it 100% and have two solid races.” smiled a content Coppins.

The GP teams and riders will have a week’s break before heading to Loket in the Czech Rep for round 11 of 15.

Yamaha close two year agreement with David Philippaerts:


The Yamaha Motocross Team has agreed with the Italian star rider David Philippaerts to ride their factory YZ450FM in the MX1 world championship for 2008 and 2009.


Next year David will race alongside present MX1 world championship leader Joshua Coppins to defend the Yamaha Motocross Team’s leading position in the premier motocross class, mixing Coppins’ vast MX1 GP winning experience with Philippaerts’ youthful aggression and future promise. Yamaha are still discussing with current Yamaha Motocross Team rider Marc de Reuver about the continuation of their relationship.


Before his rise to GP stardom Philippaerts was racing with Yamaha machinery and the guidance of 1999 Yamaha MX500 world champion Andrea Bartolini, who now currently is test rider for the Yamaha Motocross Team. In 2004 David made his fulltime debut in the MX2 class finishing his first year 19th overall. The following year his progress was quick and impressive, winning his first GP in France (round nine), followed by a further win in South Africa. Last season David’s results further improved and he finished third overall, adding four more MX2 GP victories achieved in Bulgaria, Italy, UK and the Czech Republic to his tally.


In 2007 Philippaerts made a very successful switch to MX1 and currently holds fourth position overall, the result of three GP podiums including one win at Teutschenthal, Germany
