    Thumbs up Newest Newbie.

    Thats me.

Hi everyone. Stumbled across this site a week ago and have been sittin quietly reading lots.

I decided a couple months ago I was going to get a bike, for various reasons.

I've booked my lesson + bhc with riderskills for april 7th.
Went out today and bought a helmet.

I've got my eye on this gsx on trademe. Would anyone like to offer some advice on bike selection? I don't really know what im looking for, but I think that looks pretty, and is relatively new.

Two of my friends are on their restricted 6, so i'd get one of them to give it a test ride for me.

    Hi!

    Cheers,

    Matt

Buy some safety gear before you buy a bike, even old stuff off trademe is good.
    1) because you'll look cool in bike gear.
    2) cos when you fall off you'll not be hurt so much.

Enjoy! Bikes rock! I've been riding for 10 months now and I haven't regretted it for a moment, even when I was in hospital with a broken hand caused by falling off.

    Welcome aboard,

Totally agree - get yourself kitted out in gear asap. If you've not got a huge budget check out Motomails outlet store near Western Springs Akld www.motomail.co.nz where they have some reasonably priced gear.

Welcome aboard and enjoy your bike when you get it.

    Ride safe dude - Chickadee

PS also recommend you pootle along to a www.rrrs.org.nz Ride right ride safe course when you can (they do one a month on a Sunday). Basic handling skills doesn't teach you half the stuff you should know when riding a bike (Bronz's course fills in the blanks for sure!)

Welcome to KB - once in there is no escape! You'll come back again and again and again - it's a bit like crack in that respect.

Have you searched the forums for Bike Selection?

How much have you got to spend?

er....wanna buy a 2003 VTR250? It's better than the GSX in many respects.....see my profile pic. Yours for $5,500.

Howsit... I've ridden a GSX, they're alrite, good learner bike, but you'll get tired of it quicker that a 250 4cyl, which has probably been binned or thrashed.. the GSX's are VERY expensive.
    Sorry Officer - I wasn't speeding, i was qualifying...

Yeah. I've got the helmet, and tried on jacket and pants at red baron at the same time, so next payday i'll be back out there picking those up.

I've got around $5k, but would really not like to spend any more for a first bike, $5,500 would be above what I want to spend.

I like to think i've got time on my side, I don't need it tomorrow, (though would be nice) so i'll keep reading and keep looking. Cheers!

Welcome to KB winter, this place is crazy but usually in a good way. Before you go splashing money out at Red Baron, try looking around at a couple of other places, you may find better gear and better prices if you shop around. Be selective with your purchases, you want the best gear you can get for your money.
    Good luck.
