I'm happy to have been able to share these to such an appreciative audience.

Any more I find, I'll post up.

From what I believe, these were taken at the infamous "Kaikoura Trial" (yes Trial) back in 1971 or 2.
This was his Yamaha R-5 350 (these were the forerunner to the RD-350's).
He bought this after his Mach111 500. Maybe he got too scared after a while !!

The teenage lady on the back of the bike is my Mum !!!!

Check the pipe hanging out of his mouth (chic back then).

    Cheers
    NDMz.

PS Wanna see who'll do this on a Gixxer.
Thanks for the great pics. As many have said already, in those days you did everything on your road bike if you could.

I did a tour through Burkes Pass via farm roads to Benmore dam on a Yamaha TX650 in 1973. I suppose we would use an adventure bike now. As it was the only bike I owned when the event came up, it was ride "The Tractor" or don't go.

The pipe was a Peterson, I smoked one until around 1990.
Keep the shiny side upright, Rhino.

Definitely cool pics! Not just the bike but the pipe and the sideburns and the hair! Thanks for sharing, Nudie. Definitely post more if you find any!

Ha ha ha,....I found a pic (admittedly not very good quality) of his son doing some off-roading on his '86 GSXR400. This was out at Coes Ford in 1989.
Must be a family tradition, because this bike was 2-up toured, raced & commuted on before being written off on the way back from Akaroa.

I had a rear seat for it, must be the angle or the scan as you say. Also had a seat cowl.
    Superb bike that was.

Ride in peace up there, Dad.
Smoking a pipe, while riding a two stroke road bike in the dirt without a helmet or protective gear.

    Hell yeah.
