This could be me in defence mechanism mode, but I figure that if you are travelling at 200km/h in anything - bike, car, skateboard (!) whatever - and hit something stationary, you can pretty much flag ever getting home in one piece (or less that ten!)

You can talk to any cop who attends accidents around the place and they will be able to share some pretty gruesome tales of what happens to bodies in accidents between cars etc ...

I saw a guy I knew that was gooning around on his bike just up the road from here and hit a fence post trying to avoid a horse, we saw his body lying waiting for the ambulance, his g/f had just been airlifted to hospital, he was wearing no helmet and smashed his skull, it took a long time before I stopped seeing it in my head. knowing my son is capable of travelling that fast on his bike scares me shitless, but there's nothing I can do about it except pray that his time on this earth is destined to be long and healthy. Can you imagine the family of that guy, and what they would have to go through to identify him, also their feelings with regard to motorbikes now!

Well, some months back I drove (in the cage) past a motorcyclist lying unconscious in the left land of the northwestern motorway, southbound, with his right leg bent up around his shoulder. Helmet off, not looking too flash. Bike off the road. Didn't see a helmet nearby, actually, he might not even have been wearing one. Other motorists already in attendance with cellphones etc, I don't know anything about first aid (must remedy that) and Sarah was freaking out, so I carried on home.

It really beats me how he managed to crash right there, though. Nice flat straight section of motorway.

A chap at work described a friend of his having the experience of being the first to walk past the remains of a early morning suicide jumper. Can't remember which city he was in at the time.

I guess it won't be open casket?

Bad taste I know, but I'm that way.
But seriously, what a waste, let's ride ride out there?

    Yergh!

Sorta puts you off a bit doesn't it? I am glad that I have never seen a messed up dead person, and I hope I don't have to. And I also hope that I don't end up like that!

    *Shudders*

Oh well, I guess you can't do anything fun without the death factor, eh? Well, mybe knitting... but I am not sure that counts as 'fun'

Them modern, high-performance knitting needles are ferocious when mishandled, boy. Been a few horrible incidents. You think *all* those blue-rinse grannies die peacefully in their sleep? Think again. They lay off the wool for a few decades to focus on lawn bowling, head back into a knitting shop one day and buy whatever the salesman points out first, take it home, fire up a skein and WHAMMO! Good night, nurse.

    It was a guy. Right?
The guy did it in a pretty remote area so clean up was not too big a deal. One interesting thing was that he had a spare round in his pocket, in case he missed with the first one I guess???

I apologise to the entire forum in advance for my ghoulishness, but I've always wondered about this, and I just have to ask.

What type of round was he using? Buck or bird, and what grade?

[Edit: One would imagine that the spare round was in case of a hang or mis-fire.]

Jimbo. The point is well made and the photos are having an impact. However it makes me uncomfortable that awful photos of a deceased person are on a public internet forum. I think they should come down now. What do you lot think?

Given that the person and incident in question is presumably unidentifiable, and that the photos will certainly be up in numerous other places around the internet, it seems pointless to take them down.

If it was an incident in NZ, I don't think it'd be appropriate to leave them up due to the likelihood of family and friends stumbling across them, but as it is... why worry.
