i've been first at more than a few, especially when i worked in cambridge and huntly - finding them in the middle of the night in the fog. it's never a good thing, the first look inside a car to see how many are still breathing, but the hunting in the paddocks for the body (usually sleeping kids) that 'were' have been in the back seat is the worst.

as for eating shotties/.308's/.22's/9mm handguns.....more than i care to remember

There are also pictures of a rider and pillion that had a head on with a trauck, the heavy army type that was loaded with dirt. The pillions helmet was lodged in the bars on the front of the truck, it was guess which body part that is.

Me and my mate were basiclly the first out to the car in that carsh in mt albert, it wasn't the nicest thing to deal with, i listened to this kid gurgling in the back seat, turned out he had a ruptured aorta and was drowning in his own blood, the guy i got out of the car had broken both his legs and his lower back. Driver had to be cut out, can't believe he lived to be honest, guy in front passenger seat died instantly when the dash came to meet his face and broke his neck, none of the ones in the back were wearing seatbelts.

Not being a cunt but i find it hard to show sympathy for them, driver had no licence, they were all way over the limit, speeding in a 50km passing veichles etc etc, and the parents were the ones that brought them the piss and gave them the car, i mean wtf.

Think the worst thing for me that i can think of is watching a mate go down in front of me at speed, and going back there not knowing if he/she's okay, something i never want to deal with, i'm sure it'd be the same for a lot of you guys n gals.

I think it was standard bird shot but to be perfectly honest I paid no attention to that at all.

Damn but his ears must have been ringing after that first shot!

Yeah, quite right SC, solid slug or number 7 shot, if the loud end of the gun is touching skin the result always has an untidy appearance, the shot size is irrellevant..

    Geeeezz
    Just saw those photos
Every time I hop out of first gear they will flash before my eyes
An LTSA magazine article recently said the biggest cause of injuries on rural roads is vehicles loosing control and hitting road side obsticles
I believe it is promoting "Forgiving Roads" policy where by powerpoles trees etc in dangerous places are shifted or removed completely

They did a start at that in Blenhiem(I think) and put in underground cabling, so that only left street lights, and yep, thats what people hit.

my daughter and her partner had a car crash a few years ago, doing 175km and wiped out on a corner neatly missing 3 concrete power poles and several trees, they ended up upside down in a ditch, all 4 of the occupants were ok, the car was toast. I drive past those poles most days and always think they could have been hit so easily by the car, but thankfully they missed them, I don't really think it's possible to move every tree, powerpole or road sign that could be crashed into

Oh well, I guess you can't do anything fun without the death factor, eh? Well, mybe knitting... but I am not sure that counts as 'fun'
I dont know about knitting, that looks like pretty hardcore stuff. I've heard some people have had some serious injuries from accidentally stabbing themselves with their needles. I'll stick to my motorbike, I dont think I can take the risk with knitting.

FYI Concrete power poles are actually better... better than wooden ones, I had a mate whos car slide into and up the other side of a ditch and thru a concrete power pole that snapped. luckly he came out just dazzed.

For what it's worth, I was talking to a friend of a friend at a party a year or so back, he was studying engineering and looking at power and light poles.

The light post they use a lot around Auckland and elsewhere are thin-walled steel made in sections with an octagonal cross-section. They are designed to flex in the wind while remaining strong, but to basically give way under any level of localised lateral force (a car hitting it for example) - they just fold.

The concrete power poles that we see everywhere are similar. Designed to largly give way under impact, but for the steel retaining rods to support at least most of the weight of the remaining pole, to avoid powerlines coming down.

And then there's the motorway poles, which are attached to a hard set plate with bolts that are designed to shear in an impact. Although I hear they are still pretty unforgiving.

But unfortunately for us, I believe the that our mass, generally, is not enough to cause these helpful structures to give way for us if we hit them on our bikes. So, it's best we avoid them entirely.

Watched my mate while passing me at 180k round a corner hit a Goat that ran out in front of us from the side of the road he came off big time . His K75 BMW disintergrated was just the motor sitting in the frame on the road . No front or back end / tank / bars/ speedo / all gone . Helicoptered to hospital stuffed back etc.etc . Felt sick as fuck running back up the road to him .Sold
my GSXR1100 & brought a Ducati the next week . he rebuilt the bike & is still riding it round today . The main thing I learnt from this was how FAR & LONG YOU & THE BIKE GOS AFTER THE CRASH seen as it was happening right beside me , bike bounced over the top of me at one stage .Have a lot more respect for Speeding now so try to not do it very often !!
