Why such hatred for other bike types?

Hi All,

Just something that has been bothering me for a while.

I work with a guy who rides an old Guzzi. Good for him and all that. What I don't understand is why this guy has such hatred for Harleys and Harley riders. He calls them tractors and generally puts them down at any opportunity (I was reading a bike mag article on the new Harley range and he nearly went bananas). I get the friendly ribbing in here ("when are you going to get a proper bike, you Fag" etc) but this goes further.

Does anyone understand the disdain for Harleys? I asked him, and he said he'd never ridden one. I figure maybe his Dad had one when he was a kid and ignored him because of it.

Now, if I was to have one bike, it probably wouldn't be a Harley. If however I lived the Kiwi Biker's dream and had a garage full of bikes, I'm sure a Harley would probably be in there somehere.

Surely bikes have enough problems with cages and the Gummit trying to illegilise anything fun (like beating your kids, but I digress) that we need to all stick together as a group of bikers, rather than Harley riders, Jappa riders, etc.

Anyway, that's my rant done.

Unfortunately Mully you will always find people (even on this forum) who will call you a fag just because of the bike you ride. Matters not to them what the bike is or who you are. Kind of xenophobic.

Fag seems to be an ultimate insult word to them for some reason. I think they are like the drivers who give YOU the fingers when THEY are in the wrong.

People who diss Harley-Davidsons should at least ride a few before making comment.

I've ridden a few Harley-Davidsons I wouldn't own, but I've never ridden one I didn't like.

Maybe its the shit that comes with those types of bikes...patches and all the unneeded bullshit. Many a times Ive ridden past a biker on a Harley and waved and the rider just looked at me, but then I remembered that Im not cool and he is....also my shit still smells.

However it is only a perception. Wasp27 rides with us and he has a H/D. You will not find a nicer couple in the world. Also my best mate from way back rode a H/D bad boy and he was cool.

At the end of the day we are not obliged to like everyone. Well not yet but I am sure Sue bloody .....arrrr let it go

So go out in to the world and make your friends and live life to the max. You just might not get another go at it tomorrow. Shit happens and make life better for others. As you have done with this post. Well done.

People just need to wah on about bullshit and have something that they 'hate' or are scared of. It goes way back to the "cave man " days, where there was some real stuff to be constantly fucking scared of, so shit gets made up to teach others about protecting them selves ie : stories and warnings not fuck with what ever you are scared of or don't understand (like Harley's). Next time he wah's on ask him why he is so scared,- he will hate it , but it will be funny to see his reaction.

Hmmm let's see... have a bike or not... I think I'd rather have one thanks. If people don't like my bike I don't care - I do. I don't give a toss who I wave or nod to on the road, what type of bikes I ride with. Biking is good, EOS.

Think it says a hell of a lot about the person doing the trashing of the others rides, insecure, immature, jealous. but hey, Ofcourse there is always a "little" light hearted ribbing about anothers ride between mates :-) Personally I couldnt give a rats A what anyone else thought, though its always a pleasure to have someone admire your ride

Its one thing to have a dislike and say so, but to do it so vermitly just shows ignorance.

I was on a BRONZ ride yesterday, plenty of Harleys there and bloody nice bunch of guys riding them. A Harley is not my thing but I can still appreciate them.

From the other side I get hassled all the time about riding a Hyosung, but its always in fun. I have had Harley riders admire my bike for its looks and the fact its a 250.

The Harley riders that give them a bad name are usually the scum of society eg: patched gangs

I think it really is just a piss take gone to far, people get fixated on some things, like your mate. He probably grew up in a time when Harleys were owned by wankers who wouldn't give you the time of day, or would take anything you owned.
Therefore Harley=wanker.
I personally have ridden a couple of Harleys and I don't mind them, like you I would own one as part of my collection.
In my books, 2 wheels= it's all good.

Its natural for people to include themselves in some sort of group and disclude people who belong to outside groups. Mother nature in action.

Of course harley davidson riders will be in denile about this and honda riders probably will just be annoyed that they never learned to read.
