    1975 Ducati 900 SS

Cames across this old girl while doing a bit of worktime surfing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Class...QQcmdZViewItem

What a fantastic job the guy has done in restoring it! That engine just looks fabulous. I like the colour scheme too.

I think it would look better with the side covers on, the original tailpiece and throw some original Contis and she'd look perfect.

I've attached a couple original 900SS's for comparison sakes.

Ah, I love the 900SS Desmos -- such a dynamic looking bike, even dead still. They look like a roadracer. And this worked one off eBay... wow... even better. What do you want the sidecovers for? I agree the tailpiece could be better.

    Gorgeous.

Gorgeous - I want one - but I need to commute everyday through Auckland -
That's the kind of bike that only comes out to play on sunny days.

I think it completes it, adds a bit of mystery when you can't see everything.

Get back to your Harley you, you Harley rider. Maybe you're a closet 900SS fan?

Nice enough but seems to lack aura of the old bevel drives. Somewhat pricey too though having said that the old bevels are worth quite quite a few dollars themselves now.

For an old girl that thing looks HOT! Virtually no chrome, satin finished alloy rather than mirror polished, not too much bling is just right. Nice find....when does it arrive?

I think they were out out at least a year earlier than that, didn't they do a square case 750SS first about that time (1975)?

The 750SS was 1974 (http://www.ducati.com/heritage/anni70/750ss/750ss.jhtml) and the 900SS in 1978 (http://www.ducati.com/heritage/anni70/900supersport/900supersport.jhtml). Both dates don't seem right as this site (http://www.ducatisuite.com/history.html) gives different dates. According to http://www.ducati.com/heritage/museo/stanza4.jhtml the 900SS made its racing debut in 1975 and 750SS in 1972. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_V-twin_motorcycles) seems to be more in line with my memory by suggesting the 750 Sport in 1972, the 750SS a year later and the 900S in 1975. But I am sure there was a 1974 900SS, its all a little confusing.

860GT came out in 74, 750S came out in 72, green frame 750ss in 74, the 1st 900ss came out in 76 (silver with blue bikini fairing & blue pinstripes)

The silver 900ss pictured hasn't got original pinstripes ( On the tank, there was never any markings above the Ducati emblem, just 4 row pinstripes below (one fat & three thin)

depends what books you read to what dates they give you, I would have said Green Frame in 73

maybe not on the 900, but they were on the last of the 750SS Square case

would be hard to beat the music made by a bevel drive runing a 2 into 1.
