Mixing two-stroke oils?

I didn't realise how full my 2 stroke oil tank actually was and went to fill it up today. As a result I know have pretty much a 50/50 mix of two types of fully synthetic oil - one being Silkolene Comp 2 Plus and the other which I've just added being Castrol TTS.

Before I use the bike again I would just like to find out whether this is gonna cause any problems? Is it nothing to worry about or should I go and empty the oil and refill it fully with only the Castrol?

It's and RS250 just to make sure we're all thinking of the same bike here.

I've mixed Mobil 1 and Motul 710 with no ill effects thus far.

I would think that would be fine as they are both synthetic.

I was told that mixing these oils would be okay since they both have a JASO rating, thing is the numbers after the word JASO differ. But in saying this I was also told to make the mix as small as possible, ie, not 50/50 like I've mistakenly done.

I'm quite surprised at how little oil the RS seems to be using, I'd say it's used approx 700ml for around 3 tanks of gas.

Oil use is directly proportional to the amount of fanging you do. I did 50/50, I wouldn't sweat it. Your engine's made of steel, not sugar!

If you are worried why not take out half the oil inthe tank and top it with TTS so then you will have 75 25 when it runs low put the oil you removed back in and top it off with tts again. If it were mine and I had any doubt id chuck it out its only $30 worthof oil and a couple of grand if you get bad advice here.

That's when they THOUGHT about making it synthetic oil, but changed their minds when the price of crude dropped a little......

It's not a worry in itself. I use whatever oil is most availabe. Occasionally a particular bike will have an idiosyncracy (they're like that) where it will foul plugs or smoke or some annoying thing on brand X oil, and not on others, so using some of bran X in your mix may produce some oddity like that. But other than that I'd not worry.

As someone said, semi-synthetic oil is actually a mix of synthetic and mineral.

It's mineral and VEGETABLE oil (Castrol R) that you mustn't mix. After running on one you need to strip and completely wash out the motor to switch to the other.

I once mixed Silkolene and TTS - next morning my bike was just a pool of jelly on the garage floor.Before I could clean it up one of my cats ate it....next morning he coughed up a hair ball that was pure gold,so I sold that and bought another bike.So in the long term it really doesn't matter at all.
