Thread: Made a texting SOAB fall off his scooter

Hmm this is maybe where I differ from a cultural point of view... if I see someone is on trouble, be it in a car, on a bike... in fact I dont care what they commute in, I will stop and help if I can...

Stuff, the fellow biker crap... they are people, if you binned you would hope people would help you...

Yes I know he was doing something stupid, and was not really hurt... but fuck it, I hate this "I dont care, they are not my problem" attitude...

But hey, people who know me know Im a softy!

I reckon the guy was a first class idiot, but I'd still have checked he was ok. Followed by an extended comment on his IQ, and a suggestion on some of the "donts" of riding

    Agreed

Joni, well said, I would indeed hope that people would stop to help me.

if im tootling along and you take your helmet off at that moment... id prob carry on... west auckland? goatie? bike? = not a good position for white englishman on a jap bike to be in. hehe

Id stop for anyone, not so much car drivers - simply because they are usually much better equipt. ie, passengers in car, cell phones and usually oposite a petrol station and have just run out of gas anyway. ...unless its a woman. and she hot.

So in this case I would have to disagree with you. The "emergency swivle" was not really "emergency" at all, just a swerve to the safest part of the road... An idiot like this could have gone anywhere for all I know.
i hardly ever use the brakes. the trick is to watch the moving object infront of you and if it looks like its getting closer. you slow down.

Do you ride up the Glenmore bus lane...?

Texting and riding is dumb. Falling off because you got too involved in yer texting while riding is even dumber. Dumb and Dumber eh.. Given the opportunity I would, like most here, wish for the opportunity to have a word in this lads ear as we share the road and the biker reputation with him and also pay (well nearly all of us) taxes and ACC levys ETC... However when we see someone doing something stupid, for example texting and riding, we need to resist the urge to vent our frustrations in a manner that could make things worse (driving up to him and honking an air horn in his ear) or else we ourselves fall under the common banner of 'Road Rage'. Whats worse texting or road rage..? The guy fell of because he was texting and riding and also because of the startle factor of having an air horn shoved up his arse. The startle factor in this case was a deliberate act (honking a horn) but it could easily have been one of my kids crossing the road. If he hasn't learnt anything from this incident then I suspect he will sometime in the near future, add to the credibility of Darwin's theory of evolution.

I got pulled up for doing that on Monday. Was let off as the cop "wasnt to sure if its illegal or not". I told him that it wasnt as it didnt say bus lane ONLY, told him I worked for MoJ so I must be right. I think he was a little confuzzled and just let me go...

As for the poor scooter-er how do you know if he hadnt only just got the thing and was a learner? What if he had had a mechanical fault etc? How do you know it wasnt one of us. I live in Karori and I might have just bought myself a scooter! I reckon that you should stop for anyone who needs assistance, its good karma for one! Who knows you might need help one day....

...like riding a scooter not fit for the road and texting on his phone while in motion?

This guy is not just incredibly dumb, he's below amoebic. I dont want this sort of cunt on the roads I share, whatever vehicle they use. I would put money on this guy texting again when he gets back on his scooter.

Well there's another point we disagree on...I'd like to think this guy has a future in a Siberian township where his style of riding wont effect me

Ok, I like you MDU, you say some good shit on here and I can understand where you are coming from in your opinion. Admittedly, I am being overly callous in my viewpoint and this will definately stem from the daily grind of seeing people on scooters that have no idea that they are on a bike. They are still in cage mode. To survive I make sweeping generalistic rules based on experience, and avoiding scooters is one of them. I've met some great guys on scooters, but they are few and far between in the fumbling mass of meat bombs that generally occupy a scooter seat.

Now, that said, I am not generally a callous person. If I saw someone in trouble whether on a bike or not I would try to help and that would include this complete tw@ and only after knowing he was uninjured would I get complete satisfaction that the tosser got what he deserved.

As for a fellow biker? More like fellow human. But on the road, someone has to earn that title, as they do trust and respect. I will not associate with people being this ignorant on a road that doesnt take prisoners. This is what I mean by my previous statement.

Holy shit mate, at least come to the game with yer boots on, what the fuck are you spouting about?

The learners I know invest a bit more time in surviving and I'm guessing you were thinking he might have been texting his mechanic to say his new cooter was running a bit slow?
