I figure that fire hoses must get to a point where they are unservicable. This is what I am after.

There was a joke I think used to be told by Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) about the drummer in the band. At one after match function the drummer paired off with the hostess of the evening and they went somewhere private where they started ripping each others gear off with gusto. The drummer was apparently a bit portly and not particularly well endowed in the ummm amorous(?) department.
Said hostess takes one look and says, "Who are you going to satisfy with that?"

The drummer looked her straight in the eye and replied, "Me!"

In my day the old hoses were cut up and attached to broom handles ect and used as beaters for scrub fires. Course those were the days when men were men and didnt need helicopters
