Bike not starting

Bike: '98 RG150 2 Stroke, Kick Start

Just tried starting my bike, like normal.

Kicked it once, didn't start. No biggie, it'll start next time.
Kicked it again, didn't start.
Kicked it third time, nothing.

I kicked it about 20 times, nothing. The engine turns over, there's good compression etc, but it just doesn't start. I even took off the fairing to see if the spark plug was on properly, looks good.

The bike usually starts after the first 2 - 4 kicks at the most.

Any ideas as to what is causing this? It's not even that cold.

Presumably you've checked the usual things, like key on and kill switch off?

Yes, checked all that, ignition on, killswitch off.

Also tried to roll it down my driveway (bit of a slope) and start it, but no luck.

Does it have a sidestand switch and does it have petrol?

I've checked all the obvious things (fuel etc), and it's all there. And it doesn't have a sidestand switch.

Oh. In the other thread, there was a discussion about what spark plug is best. I read that there are some real cheap ones, and some irridium (sp) ones.

Is it worth spending extra for these special plugs or do I just get cheap ones?

Take the spark plug out and ground it to the engine. kick it over a few times check for spark.

Check the float bowl for gas. look for a drain screw.

I use cheap spark plugs but only *good* cheap spark plugs

If it WAS running, aand hasn't been meddled with, then it is most unlikely that such things as ignition timing etc are deranged.

It's a two stroke. So that leaves the basics. Clean fuel in adequate supply. A spark. Primary and secondary compression. The latter two can only fail by mechanical damage. Unlikely. So it is either no/dirty fuel. Or no spark. Spark is more likely. Replace spark plug. Check for a spark, as instructed in this thread.
