Motu bins on seal, does the flying W!!

Riding around today I decided seeing as I'm on an off road bike,I may as well ride across the park instead going the long way round. But I have to jump the curb, but hey, that's easy, done it hundreds of times on a motorbike. You just give heaps of power and pull up on the bars.

So I hit the curb doing the right things and go right over the bars!!! The classic flying W,the bloody bars went into my groin and I hit the deck. The scateboard park is usually packed, but today there was just one kid,and he only looked around as I was picking it up.I think there is something wrong with my bike,it's very down on power and should of gone over the curb easy.

Careful out there guys, concrete is hard on old bones.

    eek

    Bugger

Concrete is hard on ANY bones, young or old. It's embarassing when you cock up something that you normally do without even a second thought.

It'll be that dodgy mechanic that put it together, prolly didn't know what he was doing

Ouch, no damage I trust ?

XT600 should have hopped over no trouble, I take ffwabbitt over curbs almost every day.

Shit,I'm going to be limping tomorrow, fortunatly missed any vital organs....not that it matters these days.I think the bars are too low,I tried to adjust them, but couldn't get them higher.I'll have to practice my curb hopping technique, obviously a simple pushbike needs more skill to do this task than a motorbike.Ah well, learning curves are all good fun.

Hey,pushbikes do good skids in the gravel eh?

Oh, your were on one of them funny things. I thought you woz on a proper bike. Those things are no use at all for anything like that. You need to turbocharge the engine , connect the exhaust up to the inlet sort of thing, and rev it like hell.

Riing those things scares me, I reckon they shouln't be allowed.

It's called an Avanti Town and Country - I think that is a curse in Swahilli, possibly where the bike was made too.I bought a helemt with lots of holes today....but lots of practice on bikes means it never touched the ground. It's the only 2 wheels I can ride at the moment and today was only my 2nd day on it - it's 20 years since I used to ride a pushbike daily, and there is some muscle memory coming back. This will be my commuter hack to the red shed and back, plus a bit of extra km to keep fit - I'm enjoying it so far.Uproarous laughter when I came home and told them I crashed, some sympathetic family I have !

I thought it might've been the push bike when you said it was down on power.

Glad you didn't do any serious damage.

For hopping the front wheel onto the curb, you shouldn't need to pedal as well, just balance on the pedals and kind of jump and pull the front wheel up.
    Here's one guide.

If you want to clear the curb at speed, you should learn to bunny hop so the back wheel also clears the curb. There's a guide for that here.

I do a bit of cycling, it's good exercise. And it's heaps of fun learning to wheelie, I never mastered it as a kid but I've been practising it 2 or 3 times a week before I cycle for about 3 years now and I'm slowly getting better. It's shocking how slow a learner I am, but it's still a great feeling when I find I've improved over last time.

That's a piss poor effort at a crash, and I've have expected better from you.
I take it the frame didn't snap like my crappy plastic bike?

Do I need to hobble down there and teach you how men crash? (See Mr Skid's 3rd leg)
