You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!
Also had a great weekend.
Caged it with the family up to Ahipara on Friday morning leaving Auckland at 6:30am. Thank God we managed to miss all the other traffic heading norf later that day.
Back to my roots and was on a quad and KX250 all day Saturday. Left Ahipara and rode along the coast zig-zagging between the dunes and reserve all the way down to Herekino Harbour. The kids were on the quads and absolutey loved it. Riding on the beach back to the house during sunset was memorable. Got home in time for smoked marlin and copious amounts of bevey.
Rode the dunes with my wife again on Sunday for a couple of hours to blow the hangover and caught a few mellies watching the locals carve up Mooki Lau. SE picked the wave action up to 15-20ft in the morning!!! Jafas (you can spot them a mile away cause the wear the big sunglasses) missed it all trying to dig there their jetski trailer out of the sand!! That was funny.
Back to Jafaland last night arriving about 11:30pm avoiding the traffic which I gather was shithouse.
Excellent weekend.
Phew, I'm home. I got in my fair share of riding today
Up at 7am, wheetbix and out the door by 7.30.
Home - > Pakuranga -> Howick -> Whitford -> all the way out to Kawakawa, visitng every little beach / boatramp on the way.
Reverse trip home again by lunchtime.
Grab a sammie and out the door to meet Mr and Mrs fjones at the domain, then a quick stop at motosomething for some summer gloves (It was such a hot day! My winter gloves were a bit much!).
I ordered a tinted visor for my lid too, wohoo.
Hop on the Norwestern right to the end - (my first real blat on the motorway), then out through some backroads (lost) to scenic drive, blat around there,
then back down through some other places i don't really know. Back on the motorway, off at newton road and head down to New Market for something to eat.
I say goodbye to Mr and Mrs fjones and head home for a minute, then off to visit my mother (see thread here), then home, then back to town for dinner, then home.
All in all a bloody good day.
I cleaned my bike.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
Nelson to Granity via Kaikoura then Christchurch. Best 4 days' riding I've had in a long time...even with a pillion on board!
Had a little pootle to Kaiaua for Fish n' Chips with some random people from this neck of the woods, Maverick, gijoe1313, Draco, Hellraiser, Chisanga, Chickadee....and El Dopa...on Sunday.
Today Jeaves came over to show off his new toy...and his new Yamaha Zeal so I just had to take him out round Ardmore for a short blat.
Apart from that been looking after my children and entertaining the in laws.
In space, no one can smell your fart.
Getting to know my new bike that I picked up on Thursday. Masterton to Wellington and back a few times, Paekok Hill Rd a few times, Pauahatanui Inlet a few times, round the bays a few times, Castlepoint, Lake Ferry, Martinborough a few times, and Rimutakas lots.
Some fantastic rides with groups (see mervs links) and some just by myself.
We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. George Leigh Mallory, 1922
all i managed to do was take the long way from island bay to newlands... via the piecock hill..... honest it is on the way!!!
what a ride so far!!!!
I had a hire bike for the weekend as I sold mine and on the prowl for a new one!
Mrs and I went up to Hanmer yesterday, Akaroa today and god know where I am going to go tomorrow as I have the day off also (God bless accountants day!). There were a heap of bikes out over the Port Hills and Akaroa Rd!
Have a bright yellow BMW F650GS that I hired from Kea campers. Was supposed to get a Dakar however the person who hired it before wrote it off down Te Anau way, sadly they didnt survive the crash!
978km round trip to Nelson for the weekendrode up Saturday in absolute crap weather from home to Waikari
then dubious looking weather through the main divide. The return journey today was magic
![]()
Had a great time in Nelson (cheers MyGSXF), spent time with & handled a Capican (sp?) Monkey at the Tahuna zoo thingy.
Picked up a pair of motorcycle boots on the way home (purchased off trademe, and needed after chewing out the 1 of the toes of my old boots last weekend on the way to the Mokihinui rally![]()
So in all a great weekends riding, a fond memory of "RICKY" (The Monkey), & scored new boots![]()
I did the whitianaga - whangamata run 3 times. Loved every bit of it.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Awesome riding, great company!
Friday: Auckland to Hahei via Kaiuaua, Kopu and Hikuai
Hooked up with a couple of guys at Whitford Servo - one was on a brand new Ducati 1098, picked it up Thursday - for some reason he wouldn't let me ride it...the other guy was on an older GSXR750 with a set of scuffed leathers and a name along the back...anyways, I asked if I could come along for the ride. Weeelllll...what a ride that turned out to be! I thought a pleasant cruise down the coast was in order but I was sadly mistaken. Turns out both these guys raced superbikes in their day so the trip was a quicky...woohoo!
Departed their company at Kaiuaua and tootled off to the Coromandel alone...my favourite stretch of road - Kopu - Hikuai - is starting to feel like it needs some repair! Still, a pleasant ride over the hill and up to Hahei.
Saturday: Hahei to Whangamata return
A more subdued trip this one but with the added bonus of a quick spin up to the Coroglen Pub to pass on a wee message at the end of the day...
Monday: Hahei to Whangamata to Coromandel, to Kopu to Kaiuaua
Met up with a friend in Whangamata and headed up to do the Coro Loop - surprisingly the traffic was not that bad. Being just two of us, we made good time. Bit of a giggle when Sam leaned his new SV650 into a corner, hit the foot peg and bent the brake lever - oops! Might need to get those lifted up a bit before you take it on the track! Played swap the bike from Coromandel southwards. Now I know why I race a 650 - what a pleasure to ride in the twistys compared to the thou! Quick, light, easy to turn...hmm, maybe I should trade the thou - anyone want to swap?
So, still no wheelies - ribs are still a bit sore for that - no stoppies, no runners, pretty ordinary couple of days really...
Exploring pastures anew...
Borrowed a 996I WANT ONE. On Friday went on a ride with Fizzerman, Flame, Skelstar, Darkman, and a few others whose KB name's I don't know. Went over the Rimutaka's to Martinbrough, Down Princess St and uot up the Gladstone hillclimb road, to Masterton, then out to Castlepoint. Kept fizzerman honest there and back. Did some wheelies, gotta be good. Even some side by side, standing up looking at each other...Damn where were the cameras?? And played round with backing it in...blackies are cool. And 'only' broke one 996 headlight and chipped paint in unexpected stone shower
.
Monday went for a ride on another borrowed bike, GSXR750 K4 this time (my sub-title ain't Bike Whore for nout) over Pikok hill, and around the Patahanui inlet a few times. Much fun was had by me, at least
Awesome weekend, nice to be back on a bike for the first time in over a fortnight.
Jay Lawrence #37
Nana'd around Cleavedon area for a couple of days, met and had a good yarn with a couple of the locals.
Monday, however, school work was at hand (not to mention running low on 2t oil... damn Easter to hell when you have to shop).
The upside to working weekends is when public holidays roll up, full pay for no work. Love it.
