The engine can either suck hot air coming off the engine,or cold fresh air being rammed in the front of the bike-attached or not,the ram air tubes WILL make a difference.
Did a lot of experimentation with my GSXR400 when i had it,did tests with an exhaust lambda sensor fitted-with ram air the mixture was leaner (denser cold air).richen the mixture back up=more power.interesting point-it also made the engine run slightly colder.
    Luv it!

    zxr250a

    Zxr250A:
it has a well sealed airbox.
Its just that the air intake to the airbox comes from the left lower fairing in front of your foot.
it (the air) travels about 50cm along the inside of the fairing through a duct which is part of the fairing, then turns 90deg to the left, through a rubber tube into the bottom of the airbox.
Then up through a big round foam filter,
up and forwards finally to the four trumpets for the carbs.
Not a hell of alot of ram effect.
the 'fake' ram air tubes over the dash go down through the front of the tank, but thats it. underneath them is some electrical finned thing?
perhaps its possible to fix a couple of tubes under the tank and hack them into the airbox?

thats how mine is anyways. dont know about later models or 400s.

I had a zxr250a, the tubes are not ram air on this model as noted above. There is a heatsinked? heatsunk? box under the tank behind the head tube. Maybe this needs more cooling?

The air in to the airbox can only come from the tube attached to the left hand fairing vent duct arrangement.

I understand the zxr750 does have ram-air though.

my understanding (and iown a zxr400)

250 air intakes = lead to nowhere but what i think could be reg/rec? cool it down, so n oram air (aside from intake in fairing, blah)

400 air intakes = a step up, they lead to the airbox under the tank which has a nozzle pointing in hte opposite direction form the air intakes - so the air goes in and circulates around but no true ram effect

750 air intakes = the deal deal y'all , better watch dat beast blast past when it gets some boost @ around 160kmph - or whatever.
