    zxr 250 restrictor problems

    hello

i am a newbe at this forum but if recently fixed up a zxr 250 A of 1991.
and i have restrictor problems; it only does a max of 16000 rpm, more like 15500 rpm.
and it maxes out at 180 km/h, i dont think this is normal
    right?
please if someone has experience how to delay this problem i would be gradeful.
i know my part of motorbikes and tuning, but the electrics aren't my best friends...

    kind regards

Im not 100% sure of the revs, from what I understand, a bike will always limit you from going too far into the red but yes they are restricted to a top speed of 180KPH. Any reason why you want to go faster considering the speed limit in Belgium is 120kph on the motorway?

    91 is a "c" I believe

those things should pull like 19000rpm
I call it like I see it. Don't take it personally.

well i've just looked at my registration and it defenedly is a zxr 250 A build in 1991.
it was one of the first models with the 2 round headlights at the front and the big blocked rear.
and yes i do want it to rev above 16000 rpm.
when the rev counter indicates that it is in the red zone at 19000 rpm, i dont want it to stop at 16000 rpm.
and i dont really care about the speed limit beeing 120km/h because i dont do alot of motorways , rather small country road, where you can defently go faster that 180km/h.
so if anyone has a clue about how to derestrict my motorbike, all solutions are welcome...

    thanks

180km/hr sounds about right for top speed, I could never get mine over 180.

well i have solved the problem already.
the thing is; it has a speed restictor to limited the bike to 180mk/h , this restrictor are some elektronic component in the speedometer itselfe, but i changed my speedomter for one of a zxr400, because they read to 240km/h, and not 180km/h.but that meant that the wires leading from the restrictor where not plugged in.
so my bike thought that i was in last gear all the time, and driving at top speed.
i opende the original speedometer and took the restrictor out, dismanted it, so it would not restrict and fitted it sepreratly.
so now it does its 21000rpm and it will probbably go faster than 180km/h too.(i havent tryed it yet)so problem solved, and i read somewhere that now it will go over the 200km/h, i hope so!!

There's no way a zxr250 will do over 200, the gearing won't allow it. Nor will it do 21,000rpm, even the 19,000rpm redline is a little lie, it's actually doing more like 17,000.

I agree the 21,000 revs is a bit far fetched...200 is possible on a slightly tweaked zxr...talk to n4cr

well, soon i will see whether or not the rev counter is not correct, because i am going to test a digital rpm counter which should be accured to 18.000rpm.
so when it read more then that it fine!
my zxr is slightly upgraded, with a k&n filter and rejetting and racing exhaust, i also changed the sprockets to my drivingstyle.(i only weigh about 70 kg so a larger front sprocket was called for.
after testing now(which i still havent done) i am going to try to fit zxr400 carbs.
because they are VHM 32 mm mikunis in staid of 30mm mikunis, the jets are more or less the same, so i will try them and hopefully suceed with maybe a little rejetting.

i will test it tomorrow, and let you know whether its possible to drive faster then 200 km/h an a zxr 250...

I've clocked a ZXR250 at 205 and it still had a bit more left in it, and that was me riding next to it.

Also i guy who used to post here with the screen name John had a somewhat faster than everyone elses ZXR250 that had a few mods, if you look at his account and check his post history you might be able to find what he did, i do know he was running a 240kmh speedo.
