    Are you aggressive or competitive?

I've often wondered why I feel the urge to go quickly when I'm riding. Funnily enough it's usually only a 'problem' when there's another vehicle on the road.

When I'm riding on my own I'm quite content to bimble along, minding my own business. But put another bike, car, snail, whatever in the equation and it all changes.

I haved castigated myself for my aggressive behaviour, but looking back I realise that in fact it's because I'm competitive. I know it's splitting hairs, but I like to feel that I am doing 'better' than the other people on the road, and I really don't have any feelings (good or bad) towards other drivers/riders.

In fact knowing why I get twitchy at times is very useful. The strange thing is that I still enjoy that competitive feeling.

Whoops; far too much introspection for an aging chap with no fixed hairstyle. Have a nice day (unless I see you in front of me).

I'm competitive and incompetent. A terrible mix.

Yeah I'm fine by myself but also get the urge to pass everything in front of me for some reason.
Sometimes I'll see a vehicle, a dot on the horizon, and have to catch it and pass it!!!
But nearly all of my riding is rural and a lot of time I try and get past things before known windies or spots where I'll be stuck behind them for a while.

I can get quite impatient, and agressive if I dont like the way people are riding/driving around me.

    Competitive... not usually.

Bit of both. Cut me off and I overtake (aggressive riding) and riding with RG100!! (competitive/keeping up)

On the whole I'm well tempered

    I'm just slow and nana-ish.

I did however notice that riding a bike, generally speaking, makes me incredibly docile when using 4 wheels.

Used to be like that myself, I use a cage for work all the time and cover some large distances at times, it took me a long time to come to the realisation that the few mintutes I saved wasn't worth it.

I started noting cars that would pass me about an hour from destination, about 50% of the time I catch them just as I am arriving at the destination, over the years I have learnt that unless you are going really fast, the most you are going to save is a few minutes.

Once you realise that it is not a race then you can enjoy the ride

I generaly consider myself uncompetitive - I never play sport, and rarely get into anything cometitive.A lot of this is my dislike of crowds,I've always been a loner and don't join groups.....I'm not a team player. As far as riding goes,I don't ''play'' either,if someone wants to mix it up I'll pull over and let them go.

On the other side of this I am a ''pace'' rider,I like to maintain pace at all costs...if I see a vehicle ahead it becomes a pace vehicle,if possible I hunt it down....if it has the same speed or is faster I use it as a reference.I am a menace on group rides as ''my pace'' is more important than others pace.No problem if riders are faster than me,but I get annoyed at a slower group and will push through. This pisses me off as they must see me as competitive, but I am only competing with myself....always my baseline.

I can relate 100% with the "competitive thing",as has been mentioned,I feel compelled to catch/overtake any vehicle in front me especially a bike
I dont think its a bad thing,it will depend on how you overtake the vehicle once you have caught up!! & if you can stay in front!!

I ride a Honda, so the only thing I pass is wind... Oh, and gixxers which have crashed by the side of the road.

I'm just starting out on my biking "career' so don't really know what sort of rider I'll turn out to be but I have a good idea.

When I got married my best man summed it up quite nicely. He said something along the lines of

"you get different types of people. Some people are happy just to take part, some people like to win, some people want to win and there are a few that fundamentally need to win"

He then gave a few examples which included a few hockey/tennis stories that I'd forgotten all about!!!!!

I'd like to think that I won't be like that on a bike but we'll see....

    No your'e not.

I am competitive with myself where I want to be respected as a rider by my peers...thats all.

I have no-one in particular I want to 'beat' except the ones who harp on about being fast and I'll be getting to the top at the same time they do...ha!

    Ok....Im a little competitive then
