A friend has a FZRR250 and they seem to go well...not the biggest bike out there though if you are a tall guy.

Mrs has one, it will do the job for a learner. If you have never ridden on the road, avoid a ZXR or CBR until you have a bit of experience. Nothing wrong if you utalise a bit of common sense, but that is as rare as a virgin in Ho Chi Min these days.

maybe you should just buy an old GN250 until you think you know what you're doing

For tall people they're rubbish...I'm 6ft and get sore on the zxr on longer rides due to the cramped position...go for a hyosung or get an exemption and go for a sv650 or something similar.
For heavy people they're fairly rubbish too...they're pretty much similar to all inline fours where theres no grunt down low with it pulling in the higher revs...im just under 80kg and the zxr goes along nicely...heavier riders would need to keep it revving even more than a lighter one to make sure you get adequate acceleration...dont forget, these bikes are designed for 50- 60kg japanese boys/girls.

In conclusion...assuming you are really tall and really heavy i would say nah to all your questions.
