My old girl has her clothes back on

After a long drawn out period of time My ZXR has finally got fairings again
Originally trying to trackdown fairing panels is what made me stumble across KB, but the search continued for a bloody long time, OEM panels being worth equivalent of the bike's value, no-one locally producing aftermarket panels for an early H1 ZXR, and off shore resources beyond budget.

Continuing the search found an odd bit here & there but nothing in the form of a complete unit (top & both L/H & R/H sides) until a month or so back I found a set on Trademe at a cheap price the seller wasn't sure what model ZXR the panels were off but i did so nabbed them quick.

So after a few mid week evenings tinkering, fibre glassing, prepping, painting etc. finally yesterday arvo they got fitted on to the bike

Still got a few bits 'n' pieces to play around with but for a 18yr old that's nudging 100000km & the majority being pretty hard kms, she's still going strong & has enough tit to humble many of the new kids on the block

    1) panels as brought off TM
    2) In place on bike
As many have seen the old girl

with all the hold ups actually being able to make time to work on the panels I was in two minds about putting them on.

Yeah as an on going project she's going to end up all black ( Black pearl ) with a few subtle red highlights

Cheers John The old tart will never be the minter she was prior to the incident that claimed the original panels but eventually I'll have her somewhere close to it
If I can get the cosmetics close to matching the running gear I'll be happy

Presently I can't see myself getting rid of her for a long time if ever

Would it be practical to get some moulds made from the new uns?

At the time I considered it but my original panels were beyond repair & too far gone to be able to be worked with to make moulds from And other H1s & H2s in the area are few & far between.

The panels on it now are ex-race panels and when I got them weren't anywhere near good enough to mould from I want to minimise the amount of times they're removed from the bike now and also making it a worthwhile venture to make moulds is really practical, the old girls are fairly rare beasts

    Cheers Gordy

Ha you want to know something stupid When I got her back on the road initially I gave her a full tit blast on my local play road and she was actually 10kmh faster indicated than when I'd done the same thing with full bodywork on go figure ? had me stumped the panels aren't that heavy & she was far less aerodynamic

About time ya twat - it use to embarrass the shit out of me to be seen riding/parked near that tatty pile of scarred plastic you call a bike.

Under rated I think too. In the (brief) time I had my H1 I found it pretty damn comfortable and even done a trip to Glenorchy on her no worries (apart from the oil pressure switch shitting itself 10km out of Tekapo and dumping all the engine oil over the back tyre ) and thinking about now more than enough performance.

Good on you for keeping her on the road B.

Don't worry old fella, everything your trying to emulate with that executive's zimmer frame you ride I've been there & done that with bikes I've had in the past

It only became a scared bike because of a dim-witted German tourist

Yep they're surprisingly good on the long haul though that only happens once the pace is up a bit but she's good to put in a 600km+ day no worries, but around town she's a bit like riding a church pew .
Ouch! about the oil pressure switch moment

The second image looks good...though there's something odd about that muffler...

You realise though, and I forgot to mention it before, the faster ones are lime greeen.
