GN Making funny noise

Well went for my second long ride today after watching the abismal cricket semifinal . I heard I funny noise when I was riding I thought oh god ive only just bought this bike and there are already problems. The bike seemed to be going fine though and I thought I would continue riding till I got home. I found that at the back of the exhaust the screws were loose. I tried to tightend it up with no success they are kind of like rivets any ideas guys on how to do these up tighter. Cheers

Is it right at the exit end of the exhaust? If so, that sounds like the baffle plate is coming loose, which is quite common on GNs. If you like, take it completely off, or wait for it to come off itself -- apparently it makes it sound quite nice, and not ridiculously loud. If not, if it's new, I've heard of people taking it back to the dealer and they will replace it under warranty.

the late model GN's are good for that .. drill the rivets out and replace them with some self-tappers ..

The sound you heard was the sound of the Black Caps horrific loss resonating in your ears , as for your bike sorry can`t help, I hope someone else can help you ,and maybe the Black Caps too.

Yeah it is at then end of the exhaust could I just drill the loose ones tighter to tightin it back up again. Yeah I thought it may have been something to do with the black caps LOL but no it was the baffling LOL.

Had my GN for a couple of months when the baffle fell off completely.. I blame the speed!! It actually made the bike sound alot more grunter, but got it replaced free of charge by my bike shop.

There's no thread so drilling will do nothing.
You need to re-rivet it or use self-tappers. Mitre 10 have got em.

Sorry to sound dumb guys but how do you get the origional ones out if they don't have thread

Use a drill, with a bit size as close as possible to what you think the size of the hole is. Otherwise you chew out metal, and you only want to chew out the rivet.

Have a good go over the whole bike as like others say these give problems.
The Japanese made the early ones way better than the chinese new ones.
I seen a new one snap the chain in half and the owner was a middle aged female - SNZ don't list chains as a warranty item so she had to wear it.
They also have head problems if oil changes are not done and smash off sprocket covers if the chain is worn or lose so be warned.

It's your life - so check everything.

There,that proves GN's are powerful,they can even snap a chain if you let the clutch in too fast!
Seriously,if you maintain them a Gn is now worse than any other bike.I have just got 10500klm out of the original Chinese chain on my 2006 GN,and still think it is great value!
