DR650 32L Safari tank alert!

Not quite off topic but....

Having realised that the DR is very light on the front, I have to sit well forward to weight the front wheel enough for traction on most corners, do these larger capacity tanks add much weight to the front and can you still move forward enough to weight the front with a larger tank?

I'm no doc, but I wouldn't recommend it for you this year. You're going to need to build strength up again after all this time in the brace. So with the distance involved, and the camping conditions, let alone if you have a minor off, you stand a good chance of setting your recovery back somewhat. It'll still be on next year and you'll be fully fit. Just call me mum

Yes Mum. I'm not expecting to go just though I'd ask - Doc at Burwood seemed pretty blase about the whole thing. Going to have to be really concious of not having another off in the near future. Neck strength is probably not too bad given that I'm an ex tight head prop so hopefully rehab not too hard.

If I go any slower I'll be going backwards.....

I don't think I am riding particularly fast, but am finding it a constant issue, having to get a bite out of the front tyre on all corners or the front just slops around.
Once I get well forward on the bike and get the rear driving it seems to work alright but it would be nice to just ride around a corner once in a while rather than "driving" the bike hard all the time.

Any suggestions welcome!

Not that I'm one to talk given my recient off but - sitting upright(ish) with the bike lent over into the corner and sitting well forward make it go round corners pretty good I recon. Kinda like motorcross style with outside elbow up etc etc. It is a much more forgiving position if nothing else. Well the tank’s on ready to go. It wasn’t too hard to do, just had to raise the indicators and move the horn.

The guy I got the tank from rang the other day to say he’s now selling his exhaust from his DR. It’s a Staintune system – header pipe and muffler, the muffler has a removable insert for loud/quiet, but quiet is still louder than the stock job. He says the header pipe is the same size as the exhaust outlet – much larger than the stock job, and he reckons the system is much lighter than stock and gave him heaps more power. He says it cost him $1100 and wants he $600 for it. He’s done 10000km with it. If I don’t want it he’s going to put it on Trademe on Monday. I don’t want it, so keep an eye out if you want it, or PM me and I’ll give you his contact details.

That's one big boy. Just dont fil it unless you need to and it should actually be better than the factory tank. Glad it when on easy.

Our (Js and mine) IMS tanks just arrived today, watching the tracking service info they were dispatched from Justgastanks.com on Thursday and cleared NZ customs Saturday to be at my door lunchtime today... yay, just in time for the Brass Monkey... some assembely required.

With the current exchange rate one 18.5liter IMS tank costed NZ$375 landed, at my door.

TA, I had a look at the site....looks very good value compared to the other prices I have seen. I understand the tank is complete with cap and petcock, is that correct? How long was the shipping time.....having just spent sunday constantly looking at my speedo and working out how many Km's I have left in the tank, a bigger tank sounds like a good idea before the Whangamomona ride!

I placed the order online (using the credit card option to pay) on Thursday 3rd May at 10pm. They had the yellow one in stock and offered to ship it straight away but the Natural (sort of see through) one needed to be bought in. I said i'll wait and they can ship them together. They shipped on Wednesday. Got a USPS tracking number on Thursday, we receieved the Tanks today.
I doubt you'd see them in less than a week if all goes well, could be a lot longer for many reasons such as stock levels, how busy the shop is, how busy customs is etc etc.

As for the bits included, i am expecting a screw on cap, not a locking one and a petrol tap thingy. I haven't had a good look in the box yet to see what else if anything is in there. I just had time to open the top of the boxes and check that colours before going to work. I'm still at work.

I'll let you know if there are any issues with fit or fuel leaks about the tap etc after i've fitted it... in a few days.
