Thought i would keep you updated on what im doing to my NC35.
Needed to keep myself off my bike until my knee fully heals up to allow me to ride comfortably.
So to take away the temptation, i decided to buy a new full set of Chinese fairings, new exhaust can, levers, and a few other bits and bobs.

Got a bit bored, so i started taking bits off the bit for a spot of cleaning, and well i kinda got a little carried away.

That was about 2 days ago, it has now shed a few more parts.
Half the bike is outside, and the rest is in my room.

Progress has halted a bit, as i need to get a torx set to remove the ignition barrel from the triple clamp, and i need a hex key larger than 6mm to take off the rearsets.

This dismantling process has become a little addictive, and i honestly hope that when i do finally put it all back together it starts up first time.

    Cam
Have you done anything like this before ?

    Haha.
Nope i have never taken a bike apart this far.
But never fear, i have 4 plastic compartments with all the nuts and bolts labelled.
Though it doesnt take away the paranoia of messing it up.

Yes a roll of masking tape and a vivid can go a long way man.

If you intend on pulling assemblies down to individual component level, then I suggest laying cardboard out and putting the bits down in order that they came off, even tape stuff down so it can't move.

Can't go wrong really if you don't take short cuts.

Having the right tools and asking for help when you are unsure is also worthwhile.

Here's a question: what should I use to clean gunk and grease from the frame?

Most degreasers will do it. Scrape off the built up crud first, but use care as to not scratch up the aluminium. If there is plastic/rubber parts around, you should spray the degreaser onto a rag and wipe the frame. If there isn't anything solvent sensitive, just blast away.

Would kerosene allow the metal to rust? Cause it the one thing I'm worrying about.

Nah kero won't make anything rust. It's good for cleaning chains and stuff too as it won't attack any o rings that are in the chain. It leaves an oily film though so if you use it on your frame you will still have to use a degreaser to get it off properly.

Hey Cam, should be able to help you with those, I'm off to Raro for 6 days though, so will need to tee up getting them to you pretty quickly.

Got a hold of a torx driver, but the ignition barrel would budge.
Had the same issue with the 8mm hex key for the rearsets, ended up cutting myself.
What do you guys use to loosen stubborn bolts?

Is it possible to get hex and torx attachments for a socket set?

Yes, that and a dirty big breaker bar should sort you out.

Get a drift and give the offending bolts a bloody hard smack from a hammer, that'll help jar the threads/old Loctite loose.
