    VFR800 Vtec 2005 vs 2006

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread. I'm thinking of buying a VFR800, thought you people might be able to help me out with some info (or point me the right way). I heard that the VFR has basically been unchanged since the Vtec motor was added. But I heard there was a major change to the engine around 2006. I'm tempted to buy an older one since they seem a lot cheaper, but my question is, if I buy the older bike will I be missing out on horsepower or smoothness or a better gearbox or anything useful? Are there any other changes/ differences I should look out for? Thanks in advance,

    I have recently purchase a 2000 VFR800 - Anniversary Edition.

This has replaced my much modified and enhanced FJ1100, what really drove me to it was the engine and the fact that despite 97,000km on the clock, it felt pretty good.

    List of mods so far:

PC3, BMC filter and intake snorkel removal - much more intake sound!
Fitted a carbon Akrapovic that was left over off my R1 - finally an exhaust to match the intake
Fabbri double bubble screen (replaced the Givi touring screen)
    Scottoiler
    Stebel nautilus airhorn
    CBR 929 rear shock

In the last week, I have done the most contentious of mods. I have revalved and resprung the front forks and delinked the brakes with CBR600F4i calipers and master cylinder.

Next mod is to fit a Sargent or Rider seat.

Yeah, provided it's been serviced regularly(ish) and not abused, 97,000km is bugger all. There were two in the UK that had a total of over 1.5 million miles on them (a courier owned them). Mine's got 60-something K miles on it, so that's around the same as yours.

Hmmm.. sound doesn't necessarily equal performance; you may have wrecked the Helmholtz resonance and whatnot. I had a PCII, but removed it as I didn't have a decent map, but left the O2-sensor eliminators in. Like you, I have a BMC filter, which was a bit fiddly to fit as it wasn't quite straight when it arrived a couple of months ago.

All good (although I'd personally prefer a standard profile screen than a DB one, although that'd be moar betterer than the touring screen.

No - not at all contentious; more like "quite necessary".
I personally like the DCBS system, except when it's time to change the brake fluid.
I've got both ends resprung and revalved (the front twice!). I've got Ohlins/Racetech/KSS front end, and Elka/Ohlins/KSS rear shock.

Haven't even bothered asking. They have ordered them in will just take the hit to get the bike back ASAP. However if they don't turn up today like they said they would I will just tell them to hold off and I will source them cheaper.

Been over a month since I last rode it
