So I just tested a new spark plug outside the bike. I have spark

So either the plugs that are in there are dead or I have fueling issues. But i quite mechanically incompetent so I may be well off the mark.

I have read you can flood the plugs easily by using the throttle to help start the bike. I am guilty of this. However it surely doesn't explain why the bike died suddenly mid ride.

Fueling issues also wouldn't stop a bike without warning (AFAIK).

I am still being lazy and haven't stripped the bike back yet (by that I mean i am way too lazy to remove a couple of bolts for the body work...). Waiting on a shock from Robert Taylor so I can do everything at once (or most likely send it away so a shop can do it all at once )

Get a manual and start to work with a multi meter on all the electrics.
Pickup coils and such like can fail when hot.

Also, as you have spark but stopped mid ride make sure the carbs are clean, fuel is good (no water!) and the tank vent is working.

I'm on BT45s now, they are about the same but the BT's wear way better with commuting. (Hard strip down center).

BT45's are good enough for what I'm doing with the bike, I'd have to get a lot more serious (Really a LOT) to bother putting new bearings in the 17 front that's lying in the shed.
What size rims are on yours? The 45's don't come in a 150/60 I didn't think..I have a set of them on the Beemer and were 312+Gst plus fitting, so not a bad option if they were available...

Roger that. I have a Haynes manual and a multi meter so you think I would be balls deep in it by now

I have a fear of taking the carbs off as when I did it on my GPX 250 I couldn't get the bloody things back on as the rubbers were like concrete and the bike shop gave up and replaced them (at something silly like $70 each).

Current plan is to replace the plugs as this seems to have fixed 90% of all bike won't start problems on 400greybike. I just need to find the right spark plug socket thingy to get in there.

I am pretty dumb and good at ignoring all helpful advice...

Not sure of the size off the top of my head but far more narrow, it's a cross ply setup 130/?/18 on the rear.
You will be looking at radials so the type of tyre will be different but I'm sure there will be something as good or better in the right size.

Not a good as the latest and greatest rubber for current rim sizes but plenty fine for all but racing hard.

EDIT: One can't always judge solely on brand but the best offerings from Bridgestone or Dunlop will something decent.

I can understand the fear of taking the carbs off..I stupidly took them off for a couple of weeks to clean them etc...all the seals dried, carb rubbers were like rock. As long as it's no more than a couple of hours, or you Soak them in petrol, or put new rubbers on, it's al good. Flat head screw driver to lever it out slightly and they pop back in pretty good. Happy to offer my very amateur services if I was anywhere near :-)

Yeah, getting the carbs back on is one of the most swearword-inducing jobs on an NC30! Just be careful when prying the carb rubbers with a screwdriver, as you can tear that 25-year-old, multiple heat cycled, hardened to f**k rubber quite easily... DAMHIK.

13mm deep-reach socket. I've got one here that I don't need anymore, I can send it your way if you want.

    All good. I also have

3 sets of carbs (probably enough to make 2 good sets if they had a new set of seals etc put in them),
right hand foot hanger peg and brake lever,
    various jets,
fiberglass lower fairings x2, fiberglass inspection panels, rad v piece and cut nose cone,
oem seat unit x 2 one scratched type 2 colours, one painted Matt black, both with just one seat screw hole
Oem Type 2 front nose fairing repaired together with aryldite on left hand side, scratches etc but on my bike ATM just fine, also have an okay condition type 2 right inspection panel and broken in half one for the left, good condition mud guard
Oem type 8 right side lower fairing x 2 in excellent condition ( light scratches one, send slight yellowing of stickers)
    Choke cable
    Front brake hoses

Let me know if anyone wants anything. Went on a bit of a spending spree over Christmas making the bike prettier. If anyone has a type 8 left inspection panel please let me know, and/or a type 8 tank :-p or I'll just end up painting over my stock type 2 one...

My seat unit has a crack in it that I really need to get repaired ASAP. Wouldn't mind some better lower panels as well.

Can you PM price for the seat unit?

I am considering getting tyga panels but would prefer to keep the bike as standard as possible.

Do you live in Hamilton? If you need a hand with the carbs I would lend a hand.

    Cheers
