    Fixed the VFR400 NC21 missing.

Did the mod to vacuum cutoff on the tank, pissed around with the carb balancing, to no avail. Finally worked up the nerve to take the carbs apart and what did I find. Two of the fricken main jets had unscrewed themselves and were rattling around in the float chamber (LOL), there were marks on them (someone had been in there b4). Needless to say, the NC21 is going a hell of a lot better. For a 23 year old bike, it still has some oompf. BOO YA.

is it a knocking or a ticking?

if the oil is old and thinning the cams can get noisy.

if the plug cap is loose it may arc to the rocker cover and tick. That #3 cylinder plug also gets rain on it when parked outside.

if there is an air leak into the exhaust it will tick also, as the fresh air will ignite any unburnt fuel (actually provdes an emissions improvement lol) - this can happen at the head, but I had it happen where the two rear headers bolt to the mid-pipe which put the ticking down behind the right footpeg but could be mistaken for the #3 cylinder. Do check this as the nuts eventually rattled off and suddenly gave this awesome burbling noise from under my seat. Loved the noise but not the fire hazard

lol most of these bikes tick anyway - but it never hurts to check. I'll be doing mine in a week or two as part of my 40k service, so maybe we could swap some shims around?

Its a quiet kind of tick, gets a little louder when its warm, so you may be on the money with the oil.. Changing that and filter next weekend.. On that, went into the local Honda shop, they wanted $32 for a Honda branded filter ! My buddy is getting me a high flow for $15..

Exhaust so far as I can tell is all tight and not leaking, it was leaking hard at the silencer/read pipe join, some tin foil sorted that

Yup, will also check clearances on the weekend and decide whether they actually need shimming, will give you a shout then..

I don't know what the Shinko 005 Advance is like, but back in '99 I had Shinkos on my VFR750, and every tyre I've had since then has been heaps better. Best so far has been the Avon Storms.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Im in, (if you rearrange the letters...)

Well ive been drooling over NC30s for too long, and i finally got to ride one the other day, it was awsome in all respects, except for the position, was too far forward, especcially compared to the bandit. So then after trawling through trademe i spy a NC35, $5000 (knocked him down to $4500) but 55000 km.... so i went for a lookie, and after a decent testride (Still on 6r so was lucky the guy was relaxed) found the motor to smooth as and flawless throughout the rev range. Cosmetically its clean as on one side with some scratches to the stickers on the other

the ks initially gave me some worries but after a decent ride ive got none left, the motor is tight as ...
Either way its fckin sexy and its all mine!!!!

So... am i in the club?
