Don't worry about it too much, they're either within spec or they're not

I bought it sight unseen when the model was launched overseas I just told Sawyers (Garry Winn at the time) get me one of those so I got probably the first one landed in NZ Feb 94 and 13 years later I have no regrets about buying it. It is fast and enjoyable to ride even two-up with Mrs merv on the back. You've seen stacks of my pics but here's that one I showed after it had been cleaned http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/at...5&d=1093676652 which I only do about twice a year but when I do I do it properly.

Big ups are it is smooth at any revs - doesn't lurch and jerk like a Ducati so will pootle along in 50k zones in as high as 4th gear - it has squirt when you want it, and it will do around 20km/l on 91 octane even at the pace I ride at giving it 350km until the fuel light comes on and a safe 400km on its 21 litre tank. Handling is neutral so it carves through corners - real racers would say its too low to the ground as it is easy to scrape the pegs especially two up and I scrape the collector box on left hand curves so have had to have the seam welded once already. So yes it is a sports tourer not a sprots bike but I don't want to do 300km/hr on the road anyway.
At last an honest bike assessment, bloody good on ya fella!

    Hey

    Umm 89 VFR400R - NC30.

Being fixed up right now after years off the road - a semi double trailer rig did a L turn on me into a side street in front of me and I had no where to go but down. Can't remember anything about it ...

Anyway that scared the crap out of me ... and my son who was 9 at the time saw the bike on the side of the road when he was out with his mum (ex-wife ... Ducati rider !). He rides an old school Yamaha trail bike now at 14.

So I've finally put my demon's to rest and fixing her up ... doing a RC211V fairing Tyga conversion .... keeping the old NC30 tail until I get a new WOF but as a single seat only .... and then doing a custom RC211V tail later on.

I'm only 5"2 so the NC30 is perfect for me .... I saw an RC30 for sale in Wellington years ago in in the race Castrol colour set-up.... sold for 30K and it went to an over-sea's buyer. That was beautiful.

Sanding the tank and fairing ready for paint .... looking at the paint options now and still undecided as yet. Test fitting the RC211V front and lights before paint for the fit.

Daily driver is a Mitsi Airtrek. Weekend car is a red 1989 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo 2 seater Hardtop - just fitted a Race Logic traction control system into her ....

I'll look at posting progress picts if I can get the camera sorted ....

Any other NC30 guys here ?

    Cheers, Rob

Cool man. I would love the RC211 fairings.. Not so keen on the headlights, I reckon some ducati 916 looking items would be the business though..

I've an 89, it's my daily transport, my weekend cane and my tourer haha.

Lots of things I would like, no money to do any of them.

As much as I don't want to admit, I can't afford to keep my vfr, bill payments have made maintainance costs terrifying to the point where if I keep it, it will turn into a shit heap.

So I would rather get rid of the lovely lovely thing while it is still fresh and good.

how do you get to work? I've found my 400 is so much cheaper to park/run it makes up for all the other money i waste on it (plus of course the time it saves me every rush hour)

Work is a 25 minutes on the bmx away..

    About 7 on the vfr..

Its not the cost of running the bike, its all the other stuff that needs to be paid that is going to make maintainance an issue.. So would like to sell now before it gets behind..
