So anyone doing the Honda evening tomorrow? Do we just rock up on our bikes full of fuel? Should I bring along spanners to take off mirrors/indicators? Do we need to duct tape anything?

Was going to but cbf dealing with the chance of rain.
If Playday run it like their other days then just turn up and ride. Taping things and removing mirrors should be optional. Handy to remove mirrors as it stops you checking them all the time. There is a Gull across the road but if you fill up before you leave you should have plenty.
You should get four 15 minute sessions and novice group normally goes first so don't be late and miss the first session like I did last time....
There should be another NC30 there from Aucks. williamshatnerspants from 400GB.
Cheers! Oh sweet, seed man :-). Cheers, I see they do a briefing first - is that at 4:30 or before? Just wondering how early I get there :-)

Hey guys, just picked up an nc30 that's been sitting under a tarp for 3 years. Probably gonna be used as my trackday toy but also want to make it road legal again. Any info on best place to pick up parts domestically would be appreciated!?
Also are there any known faults I should look out for?
This bike is likely to need alot of work, so anything I should check early while its in semi small pieces would be good to know.
Any similar beneficial upgrades too?
Thanks in advance for any info offered, cheers
Where abouts are you mate? I'm on my third one of these, current project just needs a disc to be re registered. Is yours a de reg? Was it the one on trademe a while back with various original fairings from diff schemes? Donestically as on here, econohonda occ or aj at motohaus in ponsonby. What do you need? Big things are carbs cleaned, poss rubber intakes replaced (don't get the cheap eBay ones, get rvf400 ones). I get bits from David silver spares or rick oliver from 400gb forum. Postage is the big one. Other big thing to check is charging - known for bad reg rectifier, killing battery and can take out many other things. Beneficial upgrades - suspension. And 17" rear rim from an rvf if you have the money! Cause tyres are limited to about 4 rear options. Always keen to help out :-)

Wow awesome response off the bat. This is obviously a great thread for vfrs.
I'm in Auckland. Dunno if it was on trade me, I bought it from someone I know.
Yeah pretty sure its dereged. Isn't that automatic after a year without a WOF?
I'm aware its got a problem with the battery according to the old owner which, is likely that reg rectifier problem.
I'm planning on flushing all the fluids first, cleaning the carbs and replacing all filters and plugs before anything else.
After that it's going to need fork seals, pads and tires. Once I've don't all that I'm sure I'll find all the other faults elsewhere.
Hoping the head bearings and swingarm bearings and both sets of wheel bearings are all still good.
After that I'll check my wallet and see how much further I want to take things *nervous haha
What kind of rear shock does it have in it?
check the plugs on the rhs of the bike as well - white one there tends to melt when the rr and battery goes and if there is a bit of corrosion. Where abouts in auck are you? I'm out west in Glen Eden. Does it have a plate? as just check, as I managed to get my second VFR still registered after it didn't have rego (not on hold either) for around 13-14 months...just put it on hold and was all good.
Have you priced plugs for these? From memory I bought my last set through amazon for a steal at about 75$NZ delievered![]()
I got a set of plugs, $110 off the shelf at BNT, which I thought was pretty good (if you need them straight away / cant wait). Honda was around $250 iirc.
Thanks again, this is definitely all helpful info.
Sorry haven't been able to get the fairing off yet so can't see much of the rear shock to identify at this point. Just making a spot for it to live in the garage this week, as it's gonna be in bits for a while I suspect.
Thanks for the cheap plugs tip, that's gonna save me a pretty penny.
Just checked and the carjam report says registration status "ACTIVE" woohoo!
Looks like I'm stuck in Auckland every night while the family go to the mandle for a week or two over xmas thanks to workbut guess that means I have couple weeks with no distractions to work on the bike
gonna need a few more tools too probably......things just keep getting better and better this xmas!!!![]()
