    The last model VFR800 you're talking about right? Not the current style?

    Switching to chains = the worst thing they could've done to the VFR. The cam gear whine is one of the best things ever, ever. Does the older 800 have cam gears?

    I'll check out that site. I'm not too concerned with seating position, though an upright bike might be a good idea.

    Yes, it does. They moved the gear drive from the centre of the cams (in the VFR750) to the right-hand end, in 1998 (for the 800). This had two implications: you could no longer flip the cams over to swap between a 180-degree firing order and a 360-degree one, and the gear whine became a bazillion percent louder (approximately). And that's why they dropped gear-driven cams on the later VFRs (so they could meet EC noise emissions regulations).
    And the camgear whine on the 800 is rather loud: despite having previously owned a VFR750, it took me over a year to get used to the noise. Friggin cakemixer...

    The ride tomorrow:
    Is Mr GingaCop going to be coming? If so, I might have to put the restrictor back in the Satantune... (so I can hear the gear whine )

    I'm sitting on 70 bonus points - I don't really need any more, when I get sprayed with the aderenaline / testosterone surge engendered by the VFR excitement, and somehow find myslef doing 20km/h more than I can afford to...

    98-01, to be precise.
    The VTec models are actually better in some regards (suspension and handling, they're quieter, they have four (4!) headlights, underseat zorsts, perhaps more modern styling, the DCBS brakes are upgraded slightly to be 'more betterer', they have 12-hole injectors, a digital dash (so your pillion can read your speed over your left shoulder, and give you the bash!), etc etc.
    It's a personal (subjective) thing. I'd rather have a 5th Gen (98-01), but most of the 02-08 owners would say their bike is more betterer.
    Depends what you want.
    Many parts are common, they're not hugely different bikes, and they are both very good. You really need to ride both (back to back) like I did, weigh up the information, and then decide for yourself.

    At this stage the ride is still on. If its a bit of "high Humidity" I'll be there anyway even if I have to ride on my own.

    The best "pass" is when you have to gear up, silently push the bike 100m down the road and THEN start up for the ride...

    Used to have to do that every morning to not wake neighbours up when i let for work
