    Binned!

I Finally had a bin wrth posting up!
pity I wasn't riding my own bike

I was following two mates up the dry (fetherston) side of the takas today, we were moving along at a reasonable pace -Not that fast! honest!-
I came around one of the medium lefts a bit before those diggers and stuff to meet an impressive shower of sparks as my bike slid off into the other lane.

that wouldn't have been to bad but problem was I wasn't riding it!

My mate and I had swapped bikes for a quick squirt.

Now hes lowsided it and im coming up behind and in trying to avoid hitting him or my bike I gabbed too much front brake for the surface/situation and WHACK my helmet meets its use-by date as I highside off my mates bike

Fark! after scaring the shit out of some passers-by we are standing around assessing the situation (Having a "yay im alive" laugh) as SCREEEECH as a guy on an old GPX slides past lowsiding out of the same bloody bend!

He got the distance record by far tho!

Nice soft landing for all concerned happily

Just had to ride home clutchless, and my mate only on the back brake.
    Gpx lost a tail light.

Ive got some fixing to do tho so if anyone happens to have a pile of spare GSX250 parts.....

Hell dude! Glad you are all ok, and the bikes didn't fair too badly. Sounds like there must have been something a bit slippery on the corner eh! Time for a new helmet is it?

Yeah mines just the plastic and bending bits.

    Thats not really a problem.

The bike i brokes a bit worse unfortunatley, tanks really bent and bashed, needs a whole new master cylinder and associated bits and its got a bit of a frame bash.

Add all that to the new helmet and im poor

    Better poor than Sore tho!

It was actually quite a rush....

Sucks bro. Guess this thread answers my PM-ed question. Flame and I had deduced that you and your mate had been the ones that might have crashed 'up there'. Glad you made it out the otherside ok.

I'm glad your Asphalt Angels were all on the clock today and you ended up with nothing too serious!

Anytime you get to worry about the state of your gear/ride rather than yourself is always a good thing!

Glad to hear you reflected on the things you did right/wrong ... piccies of the damage/site of incident?

After talking to you two when you arrived in the summit carpark we had a looksie on the way down, and there was a suspicious dark splash trail around a few bends where you all came to grief. Blame a diesel spill.
I know it smarts saying this now but try and keep a careful eye on the road surface as you ride that hill. If you aren't sure what's caused a dark patch - avoid it.
We are so lucky all those trucks decide to wreck the seal and spill their fuel all over the corners rather than risk wearing out the steel railway tracks that can transport heavy goods quicker and safer under the hill.
There was a serious multiple car crash on the way home near the Te Marua golf course. About 4 or 5 cars involved. 2 firetrucks and 4 ambulances attending. Looked like some badly injured people being treated.

Hmmm...due to MD's info on the diesel spill on the hill i took it 'reasonably' easy going up and back home, but bugger it if I could spot where the diesel was! ...thought I kind of saw it on the exit of one of the passing lanes. Guess I'm saying that sometimes you're just going to be really unlucky.

    Cheers guys.
Both my stacks now have been due to me grabbing to much front brake on a suspect surface! Deisel to blame or not i could have done better. I will endeavour to do so next time.
