If your thinking of central plateau area (generally) in June, then I'm in as well. I've used up all my credits for May, so aren't allowed out to play for a whole weekend until June!

The uruweras/waikaremoana area has decent gravel and is pretty scenic. Even if the weather has been crap it would still be very ridable (especially for the punters with heavy bikes).
There's a few good doc camping areas there or else we could stay in Mahia and ride back a different way?
Windboy.
Hi there
Yep the basic plan would be to meet at Pohokura Road (Taupo end of the Napier Taupo Highway, so depending where you are coming from you could leave either Napier or Taupo) then through the forest to Minginui and then onto Waikaremoana for an overnight stop, then on towards Wairoa via plenty of back country gravel roads to Napier.
Also Clint is thinking about doing the MMMMM ride again, search on ADV rider to read his post on this trip
Cheers Scott

Hey man, couldn't find the thread on the advrider forum. Anyway, maybe the jafas would meet you further north (round waiotapu or rotomahana). Also, from wairoa we may head north rather than south towards napier...
Any suggestions for the return journey? any other jafas?
Also, have we got a date for the ride yet? We could meet on a Saturday for the main ride. That gives us the friday night to get to where the ride's supposed to start from?
Windboy.
Hi
Here is the MMMMM ride report from Clint.
We will do that again for sure aye Clint![]()
I am leaning more towards Whangamomona trip this time, but we have to work on a date.
Riders will be coming from all over the North Island, we will probably plan for a late am start to allow riders to get there without rushing. Then overnight somewhere comfortable (like the pub)
I will keep you posted
Cheers Scott

Hey,
I want to join in again... so keep it simple for those of us who can only haul our bikes up so many times!
How about the Makairo track the other way. I hear it's really nice this time of year! I'll bring my survival suit and C90 with a picnic hamper this time.
Howsabout... to keep it cruisy... about 350 km, on the Sat, starting at Whangamomona, head south then turn off at Matau down Junction Rd, out to Urenui, then into Okoki, Kaka Rd, Uruti Rd, Moki Rd, Kiwi Rd, back out to hwy 3, Awakino (lunch maybe?, if keen a (60km round) side trip to Waikawau beach, back towards Piopio on Taumatamaire Rd, then back down Ohura Rd et al to Ohura, then back to Fonga, maybe taking in a couple of side loops?
Sunday?
For those that aren't aware of the Magnificence that is the Whangamomona Hotel, It's a bloody great pub, they do Dinner, Bed & Brekky for around $80 & it's bloody good, the meals are the full works, If you're on a budget
there is a very cheap campground, I think they may have cabins too, within easy staggering distance of the pub.
Cheers
Clint
Zukin et al - I'm with those who favour converging on Whangamomona Pub.
I've done the the tunnels and Kiwi Road on the 1150 with another pal on an air head beemer. Kiwi Rd IMHO is tops.
As to dates - I'm with 'Crisis Management' - there's only so many weekends one can be away for an overnigther. In principle I'd be up for a Sat/Sun in May or June.
Good luck with the planning - cheers Aslan![]()
Sounds great![]()
I would suggest a meeting point like Turangi?
That way everyone can meet a central location, maybe then we head towards Taumarunui and Whanga?
Then on the Sunday do your loop, and depending on time etc, look at the beach? Then inland toward Te Kuiti
We also need to look at a weekend?
Dates - I am ok on the 24rd & 24th June?
I dont have to be there though![]()

Taumarunui may be a better meeting point for the northlanders (that way we don't backtrack the next day...). We (I) could leave early on the Friday after work and make it to Taumarunui for the night.
Mind you, at the moment the poll shows a draw between Taranaki and Hawkes bay...
I'm keen as beans, 23/24 June sounds good to me too.
Are you piking Zukin????
Aslan, sounds like a seriously long ride on the friday huh?
Windboy.
Me Piking!! NEVER![]()
I meant that I am only free on the 23/24th June, all other weekends are full for an overnighter.
Lots of one days free but no 2 days together![]()
So if a particular date suits everyone else then I don't have to be there
i think we will wait for Clint to revisit the MMMMM ride for that part of the country![]()
Cheers Scott

Hi All - I think Wind Boy has suggested Taumaranui as a meet for folk from all points? This was my thinking also.
I'd envisaged the possibility that those coming from the South could ride the Whanganui River Rd through Jerusalem, Pipiriki and on to National Park and Taurmaranui via Raetehi reaching Whangamomona at the end of a full Saturday.
I'd favour riding from Taumaranui to Whangamonona via Mt Damper en route - not sure if this is feasible.
Day two Sunday would see us ride out to the Taranaki Coast and head North and South making our way home.
for those viewing this thread wondering whether the ride would be suitable for big dual sports like beemers - I'd certainly envisage it would be gravel and seal with no muddy single track - unlike the Makairo Track last weekend
Cheers Aslan![]()
