You hate drivers getting in the way of bikes? Being a cyclist is the worst. Supposedly you have equal rights to everyone on the road. Bull. We constantly have to give way to every single car, truck, van, etc. Just the other day, I had to bike down a damned busy road, and cars were shoving me into the gutter, so I had to go onto the footpath for fears of being knocked over, then bam, I go straight into the back of a People mover backing out a driveway. It was backing out pretty fast, if it had been backing out casualy like most cars, I would've avoided it. In the end, I had to pay $500 cause of a dent I put in the car with my head, and I was unable to go on my motorbike cause I had a buggered up knee.

I got a Day off school the day after though.

Well, seeing as drivers have passed their driving test, contribute for road upkeep through petrol taxes, etc, what do cyclists do - ride 2 abreast, ignore most road rules, etc.
I am not anti-cyclists, ride a few times a week too to keep up fitness, but some of these lycra clad cyclists seem to think that other road users are always in the wrong...!

Specially when they're riding on the twisties...you'd think they'd stop riding 3 abreast when they hear a loud pipe, but no... lucky i dont drive a truck!
and if cars force you on the footpath, stop and wait 2 minutes!

well I dont no what its like up your way but in Chch at what was a normal intersection ie: one lane for turning right and for going straight and another for turning left and going straight........ the idiot roading engineeres have deleted one of the lanes and made it 1/2 as wide (all cars use this lane) and added a pushbike lane which is 1.5m wide.
This means if a car wants to turn and has to wait to give way then all other traffic is held up to the point were only one car gets through the intersection.
This is all over the city now and the roads have been painted red for the silly bikes not good on the motorbike in the wet.
And who pays for all this????
    cheers DD

I would imagine a lot of cyclists are ratepayers and own other vehicles and so contribute to road upkeep but aren't lazy fucks like most car drivers and prefer not to add to even more traffic congestion.

As a law abiding cyclist when I used to ride around town I was continually put in serious danger because of the ignorance of the car driving public.

The group of road users I see doing the stupidest things and always thinking the other road users are in the wrong would be motorcyclists

good on the people getting out into the open a having a push bike ride. but for goodness sake the rules clearly state not to ride two abreast!!! this applys to state h'ways as well as back roads. i live in an area with a very strong push bike club and see them regularly out and about, but just because they wear bright clothing dosent mean your going to be seen!!
i have seen people riding (wearing full gears) push bikes on SH3 between Hams and te awamutu (which is a very busy road and has a high percentage of heavy traffic) two abreast! you would think that these peiople would have a lot more common sense than others!! people who get run over in this manner do not have my sympothy!
yeah... sorry bro, i thought that ment miles 'n hour.

Yeah, what's happened here? go out on a weekend, particualy north in Auckland and you see expensive SUVs parked up and bunches of expensive bikes in colourful lycra all over the place - seems like they have taken their SUV arrogance and applied it to push bikes. You see cars crawling along the Scenic Drive stuck behind these arrogant sods who seem to think they can ride 2 or 3 abreast, yabbering away about the share market and property values while riding - they better watch out...there's a Pajero with a broken crank and pedal still stuck in it's grill that cruises those roads.

    Actually...

One point that has slipped by most bikers is that if you tow a trailer (god forbid) like a unigo or summat bigger behind your goldwhinge or whatever...

You are supposed to limit yourself to 80kph....

    Nasty....

Yep, some of the HP dudes(esses) down this way are onto that one, most frustrating for those involved. Phark, 80k is gonna take like forever to get anywhere.
