Best value off road bike for $3K

I may have about $3000 to spend on a used Off Road Bike, to do some trail riding, off road etc, not moto-X racing, probably 200-250cc
Any one have any ideas what is the best value bike for money, taking in consideration reliability, ease of riding, spare parts etc
Thinking of a 4 stroke but not necessarily.

KDX 200, ask frosty he's just been through this.

2 stroke, reliable and fairly low maintenance should be able to get a tidy one for 3k.

XR250, DRZ250 or KLX300/250 if you want four strokes,

my pick for perfromance is the KLX300,

or if you want to go 2 stroke get a KDX200, easy to repair, not aggresive mx type power

another vote for the kdx, but it's more important to go and ride a few bikes and keep your mind open.

And I reckon you can get a good bike for $3k if you look hard enough, and your in the right are for some good bikes.

Despite being a four stroke fan (all my dirtbikes were four strokes) I couldn't agree more about the KDX200, particularly for your budget.
Distinctly difficult bike to destroy. I have seen a friends '98 model dropped in a river, completely submerged in chest deep water. Dragged it out, took the plug out, tipped her upside down and pumped it dry. A little fresh fuel from another bike and third kick and she was away!
Dropped my fourstroke in calf deep water and it took an hour and half to start again..........................

OK folks Im sold--KDX KDX KDX KDX
    Im lovin riding mine
By some amazingly good luck for me due to some VERY bad luck for a fellow KBer-(get well soon dude)
I have a KDX220 coming for me from Napier which makes the KDX200 I just bought redundant
    I want $1500 for it ---Its a 90's KDX200
A suggestion for ya dude--Buy Mine --give it to Danger to get the suspension set up for you-- and still have heaps of money left from ya $3000

Funny that... this was my budget when I started looking for a bike. Took a mates 2007 CRF250R for a burn and had to buy one There goes my cheap hobbie idea out the window but it's the best purchase I've had that I can remember!

Sounds like the KDX is the way to go mate. I've always riden Honda XR's and they seem to be pretty damn good trail bikes.

A good smaller bike is the Honda NXR125... yes, it's only a 125cc, but they do go and are loads of fun... PM Carver, as he's got one (I've used it before and had loads of fun), and they're road-legal
