Wellington City Council - draft parking strategy

Hi. Was just looking at Wellington City Councils draft parking strategy (hey, someone's gotta do it!).

For Wellington based commuters this is a good opportunioty to hit the council with submissions saying how great for the city motorcycle commuting is. A surge of submissions highlighting the many benefits of providing free motorcycle parking - and in fact setting aside more space than there is now - is better than being invisible.

Incidentally there is an item that makes me think they are considering charging for parking. This is section 1.5 (e) of the draft implemeentation plan that says a short term goal is to:
Review current management of on-street spaces in the Central Area, including: ... (e) Provision for motorcycle parking (to determine quantity of spaces, location, price)
I plan to make a submission that includes the following general statements:
    1. Motorcycle commuters contribute to the councils environmental objectives of efficient use of road space for parking(Section 5 item i).
    2. Motorcycle commuters contribute to the councils environmental objectives regarding air quality (Section 5 item j).
    3. Motorcycle commuters contribute to the effective flow of traffic in and out of the city by reducing the mass of commuter traffic.
    4. Motorcycle commuters contribute to the economic wellbeing of WCC because the wear and tear of a motorcycle on the roads they are responsible for is significantly less than that of a car.

There is an online submission form on the council website

There's also another thread here somewhere...
Thanks for keeping this in out attention though - it needs to be addressed.
