At school in the early 60s. I couldn't afford a japanese bike and bought a Francis Barnett 200. Cool guys had bikes and the really cool had a Triumph, BSA or Norton. The fashionable rode Honda 50 step thru. The FB was neither cool or fashionable but did offer freedom.
Those who weren't cool did theatre etc. BTW Paul Holmes was in that group at the school I went to and, where is he now?

A Honda CJ250 twin... didn't make cameras in those days...

Update... found a link to some poor sad bastard who owns one and is rebuilding...

I had one as my first bike. Managed the fortnightly trip from Hobsonville to Havelock North just fine in all weather conditions for just over a year.
