1938 Enfield 350. Bought it for 15 pounds in 1954. Had to push it 3 miles home. The old man took one look, handed me his tool box and said fix it before you ride it. Took me a couple of months, complete engine rebuild and repaint. Rode it around the farm until I was old enough to take it on the road six months later.

Fuck, there's some young buggers on here

Bitsa - 1950's Velocette frame, AJS350 engine, unknown origin forks (certainly were not Velo), Velo wheels and "brakes", BSA Lightning seat, Matchless mega exhaust. Went about as good as it sounds. Bought for about $25, never rego'd or warranted and learned to ride up and down Whitemans Valley (Upper Hutt). Things were different in those days.
Would be worth a bit as parts now
Swapped it for (I think) a Lucas magneto for the next bike which was an early '50s G9 Matchless 500 twin.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Does anyone remember a couple of 125 cc models that Suzuki brought out in 1971. I think the designation was T125 - one was called Wolf and the other I think was Invader.
They were a bit different - parallel twin 2 strokes but the cylinders were laid down flat and pointed forward. They had high pipes that were just below the seat for most of their length. A mate bought one as his first bike and I haven't even seen a picture of one in decades.
Thought they were rather Kool at the time
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

The Wolf (earlier one at least) was the T90

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

WOW!!! Im simply stunned at the interesting variety of starter bikes. Great fun just going through all your posts and googling your bikes and reading about them. Its like a motorcycle history lesson all in one thread!! No offense to you older folks of course......but some of your bikes took some real effort to get good info on they were so old.....which made it fun of course!

Oh and it made me think.......my first bike was, technically, a Suzuki GZ250. Great bike......a real mini cruiser type but I wanted a mini sport bike.....hence the Ninja 250R.

1956 Victoria Vicky 50cc moped Mk3. Last model with separate chains for motor and pedals. Mk4 was much sexier and could be kick started using the pedals. Back then mopeds had pedals...MOtor/PEDals.

first bike was a honda CL 125 "speed twin", which turned out to be a Malaysian import - but a good little bike nonetheless. Pic is same bike, but not mine...
