    heated hand grips

With the cold weather lately I presume those of you who have heated hand grips will want to feel part of the "team" so wont use them.

Maybe we should have a vote of everyone going on this triip, can they use them or not?

    Heated hand grips!!!!!

I've installed the heated anal probe, for that inner glow!

Amazing what you can do with an old soldering iron and a transformer.
Does limit your riding position somewhat.....

I'd recommend a small Jerry Can if you've got room like Garry has said he'll be bringing. Cheers all - Aslan
I thought the Tory Canyon sank years ago.

    Hmmm
Is it possible to reverse the cables that supply power to my heated grips, so that when you actually have them in the off position they are actually on

I have never had heated grips and thought I would never have them, that was until they came on my new bike, and they nice to have

Nope, if you've got them - use them. Stiff, cold fingers are most definitely a liability on a bike. I didn't think I'd miss the heated grips when parting with the Dakar, but sure as hell having second thoughts an considering as an optional extra for the HP2, especially after the last couple of mornings coming to work.

Another reason why to lay off the baked beans... I'll be the one following you from akl all the way there and back crisisman.

By the way, here's the first hint of the weather for the wwwwww weekend.... looking at the end of the long range forecast there's a big arse high around the country, also a big arse low approaching from the west... Lets hope the high jams in the country for a bit longer...!

I would rather have good company than good weather, and that I know we will
It would be nice to have both, but I don't care to much

I love winter riding last weekend we went for a ride in the crap weather up to the ranges here in Hawkes Bay. even managed to ride through some good snow showers

My bike is currently in for some new tyres, and I have swapped it for a mates Dakar (he wants to make a centre stand, as he doesnt have one, and mine did)

I can say there are some small differences between the F650GS and the Dakar, one being the Dakar is a big taller and the brakes dont seem quite as good!
Also doesnt seem as responsive on the Dakar, but I suspect that could be because my 650 is a twin spark model?

    Getting excited now

Quick Z, take the Dakar for a shingle run, see if you feel much difference there. And i don't mean a swept dirt road, i mean real shingle or maybe even a bumpy dirt track too.

Why do you ask? Are you thinking of buying one?

    Northern Riders

Are you heading down to Taumarunui on Friday?
If you are would you have time to travel to Wanganui? (its about 2 hours to Wanganui from there?) and start with the rest of the group?

Just curious as this road is pretty good

    Cheers Scott

I had a GS for a few years several years ago, and did not like the front end feel when off the seal. I often thought the Dakars 21inch front might have been much better at cutting a path and swallowing the bumps, everyone down here seems to go with Dakars but no one is using a GS to compare with.

In our incredibly well organised way we have (I think) the following plans....

Leave Auckland 8.00am friday, via Raglan, Kawhia, backroads to Piopio and Taumaranui friday night.
Saturday ride towards Wanganui through the whanganui national park and meet you lot where you start the gravel (don't know where that is because, yet again, my map has done a runner....)
A cunning plan to cut the amount of seal to a minimum!

As far as I know there is me, Windboy (Armando) and his invisible friend (Neil) coming from Auckland. Obviously, if anyone wants to join in let me know.

Scott, I'm open to suggestions here, as none of us have done this trip before so if there is a better way let me know.

    Hi Crisis,
Its about time I started paying attention to this thread.(checked my hotel booking, all sweet).
Re Sat to Wanganui: Raetihi is the top of the gravel rd section of the Whanganui river rd. (about 45-60mins from Tauramanui).
You could start heading down it, and probably meet the southern crew near Pipiriki. There is no major turn offs, so the likely hood of missing them is almost nil.
I'm not sure if I'll be heading for Whanga on fri or sat yet, but will let you know closer.
PS Long range looks wet, so the river road will be interesting. Must sort out my tyres. not sure what to change to yet.
