Just what Tri-boy said, predicted temps are low of 3 -4 and high of 10-13. It will be wet on saturday but thats why we're staying in the pub.
Bring lots of layers and keep warm, then the wet doesn't matter. If it's any help I'm a marine SAR medic in my spare time so I'm sure you'll be well looked after. (where is that anal probe again??)

However, you have to be comfortable and enjoy the trip, if your 50/50 I'd say come and have a blast but the final decision is yours.

I certainly have no criticism of anyone who puts their safety before anything else.

Scott, I'll call you tomorrow night.

    Ride safe guys!

OOOps....I hope I didn't start something with my weather "prediction'? As most have said>>>> The rain will be overnite friday and saturday; hopefully clearing L8r. It will not be v low temps, as has been said, cause the system is NE'erly. With average to good gear you will be able to stay warm and dry.

REMEMBER; looks aren't a substitute for safety....ie.....any pvc parka/legging combo over your gear will keep you dry(3/4 battle won!) and you will be surprised how you get wot I call the 'Thermos' effect with another layer trapping an air zone away from your gear; you will stay warm(last 1/4 of battle to survive!). Gloves are a problem, as are boots...no substitute for GOOD in these areas. Oh, and make sure your gear has a good seal around your neck, like real tight; water down the front will defeat all the above!

I belive that cheap pvc's are readily available at the Wharehouse.

STAYING; we are in the Grand hotel, Guyton st. Hey....don't knock it....bars downstairs, irish pub, Breakers cafe, brekkie inc.....Heaven!

My mobile, for the weekend ONLY, will be; 0274 998510.

OR, come meet at the irish pub, middle of town! Jamie.

Re staying at the Grand Hotel.

Guys, just make sure your bikes are secured in the property.
The pub is in the CBD, so "undersireables" arn"t too far away.

    My weather prediction

It maybe wet, it maybe fine, it maybe cloudy, it may even snow

But I dont care I am gonna have fun regardless

I can bring a spare rain suit, but it is X small (Carissa's one) so if anyone can fit it, you can borrow it

See you Saturday AM I guess

I have been using $20 warehouse pvc pants and jacket (xxl) over my normal riding gear and while I look like frosty the snowman I stay dry for much much longer. I keep them permanently on my bike in my saddle bags - at $20 a pop if they get nicked I don't exactly break down and cry (unless it starts raining that is).

wife and I will be there, if the weather is absolute shit on sat morn there is the possibility that I will ride from New Plymouth to Wanganui and she will drive to the pub later in the day. She is still keen though to go on the bike.

Tell me will you be locking your bikes at Whanga? if so someone I hope someone will lock my bike to theirs?

Wink Aslan breaks his silence on committing

OK - I've seen some very considered posts reflecting on the weather.

Here's my position Thursday night - fighting off the onset on winter chills but seriously planning to be at Plimmerton Weigh Station for a 7.30am ''off" on Saturday - I'd be really sad to miss this one it's been in the offing for some time.

My daughter - a hardy soul and normally a keen pillion has arrived here from the S.Island today and is keen as to see Jerusalem and the Whanga Pub so unless there's an amazing change in the weather she'll be bringing a car and accompanying us. So there will be spare seats for pillions who may be feeling the cold and coming from the South.

God willing, I'll see you Southern men at the Plimmerton weigh station or points en route.Cheers Aslan

love Ducati Jim's humour - like Young1 I to have concern - mine's about whether my bimmer will start on Sun morn after a cold night at the Whanga as my battery is seeming not to like the cold.

Young1 I'd be flattered to have your Katoom tethered (secure against bandits) alongside my bimmer.

    Cheers Aslan

After discussion with Hugh, we've decided to pull out. Sorry guys. The thought of sitting on dirt bikes in the rain for 5 to 6 hours each day did it.

My reason for going was more for the scenic side of things. Won't see much in that weather.

Good luck, and have a great weekend.

Sorry to hear that Bart, but you do what ya gotta do. We'll have a jar or two for you and Hugh at the pub - and send you photos of the great scenery
