I know it's 760km for me to get to Wanganui for the start, but not sure where 1/2 the other places are

    Thanks in advance, Stu
    Hi there

I am not sure if the scale of the attached maps will be adequate, but you should get the idea?
This is a pretty rough drawing

    Cheers Scott

Thanks for that. Exactly what I was looking for. Weather dependant ( 2200kms in the rain doesn't really do it for me now days ) I'll be there

    Cheers, Stu

    Paper roads

There is a paper road that will take you from Matau across to the Uruti valley, mates have done it on trail bikes. It is hard to tell on the map on this site but there are two roads that almost meet up and they are the ones to follow.

Unfortunately the only way across the Waitara River is a private bridge, my mates ring and get permission to go across. Something to think about for when it is drier, these are farm tracks not gravel roads

Seems to be in good nick,

I rode it back from Palmy last night (and by the time we finished fluffing around) it was dark and cold
It went really well on the road, I did enjoy it
    Congrats Zukin! is that a GS1200 or a 650GS ???
Either way, sounds like a pretty new bike; you must be stoked.
    Post some piccies please...

Oh also, Thanks for the maps that you posted; you wouldn't happen to have a list of the waypoints for the routes? (Am I being demanding or what...?)

    Cheers man,

    Cheers man,
    DOH
It is a F650GS, I felt the 1150 or 1200 was just too big (and expensive)

I havent made the waypoints up as yet, but when I do I can send them through so you can add them to your GPS if you like?

    Cheers Scott

Picked up the DRZ tonight, came with 14/44, and new-ish TKCs. Not too shabby.. I'll probably keep the 44 for now. I do need to pick up some handguards though, any recommendations for where to shop ? Also, you know where I can get an owner's/service manual ?

TSS Motorcycles in Lower Hutt - ask for Kerry or Richard - i've found them both to be very helpful. Alternatively Dan or Glen at Motorad.

As for manuals - there's a Nelson based source of tech books that can do as cost effectively as buying from Clymer in the US.

Check out thumpers over on the ADV site and the DR/DRZ group on Yahoo - you may find you can get a downloadable version.

Yes might be a little far away but when I lived in Welli (and now in New Plymouth) I still use him for all the bits for my DRZ and my sons KDX. he is the sort of dealer who, after I put my brake lever through my clutch cover (long story!) took the part I needed off a new bike they had for sale as the parts were on back order through Suzuki NZ.

    I can not fault him

Sweet, had it for a day and already fouled up a plug At least it's a lot easier to work on than the F650GS.. still keen to get it off the pavement though !

Stayed at the WHanga camping ground last Wensday night. They sure are cold, boxes. Take really warm clothes.
Can recommend the $9 sheep shanks on kumara at the pub.

    foul

I reckon it was mostly because the bike had been sitting for a month or so.. engine wouldn't turn over at all, just let out some hellacious backfires. Popped the tank off, pulled the plug and cleaned it off, all was well after that. It was awfully grubby.. I reckon I ought to clean out the carb now as well, and I'll need to bleed out the rear brake. Other than that it's a fine bike

I can't even use my DR650 punch line with that reply...

What? You only have one plug?
