Wet, Wild & Wonderful Whangamomona Weekend

    Dates 30th June & 1st July 2007
    Overnight

    DAY 2 – 310km approx

We start the day by heading south then turn off at Matau down Junction Rd, out to Urenui, then into Okoki, Kaka Rd, Uruti Rd, Moki Rd, Kiwi Rd, back out to Highway 3, Awakino, riding through a few tunnels along the way.
Then for those that are keen we could complete a 60km round, side trip to Waikawau beach, then we head back towards Piopio on Taumatamaire Rd, and then back down Ohura Rd to Ohura, before heading our separate ways.

If you are interested in this trip, please register your interest, here on the KB calendar
The meeting times and distances may change so regularly check this post for any changes.

    Cheers
    Scott
ya could knock a few miles off this trip on day 2 and this is the way the locals do it. mentioned a few pages ago but clarifying.

""We start the day by heading south then turn off at Matau down Junction Rd, out to Urenui, then into Okoki, Kaka Rd, Uruti Rd, Moki Rd""

my suggestion. whanga - SH43 - Junction Road to Matau. ++ Matau North Road - thru farm and over Upper Waitara Bridge and come out on Ngatoto Road - Kaka Road - Uruiti road - Moki Road (past set of The Last Samurai) - Kiwi Road. (as fast as u can get thru tunnel and go straight ahead at end of tunnel. turn. deploy parachute) - out 2 SH3

this cus out that big wasted trip out to Urenui. must get gas at Awakino Shell as nothing at Mokau now
    .

also suggest from Aria down Waitewhenua road. gravel and flows beauty. yippee

Is there anyone else coming from the north that wants to meet up?
Is this additional leg only available to those from up north ?

I'd be keen on looking at riding up to Ak if it meant a bigger shingle bash overall......

Where would you be staying the Friday night then ?

Open to anyone Stu, if your keen I am sure we can meet up.

Keep in touch and we will work something out, I imagine we will post a route from here for anyone to join. At present I havent thought of an overnight stop on friday but I imagine Taumaranui, as we want to meet the others closer to Wanganui (get to play on more gravel this way......).

There's definitely a good offroad "coastal" route to auckland. We'll be doing it on the way down and up again on the wwwww.

It goes from Pt waikato (1hr from akl central), pass raglan, kawhia and ends at awakino (about 200 km in total, not sure); I've only done half of it.

Well as for friday, not sure what the plan is yet. I initially thought Raglan sleep but now that we have a start from wanganui (and crisisman has been twisting my arm), it's looking further south.

You're more than welcome to join us

My understanding is that while there is a "paper road" between Matau Nth road and Ngatoto Rd the bridge over the Waitara river is a private bridge so would need to get permission from the farmer first. How suitable are the tracks for bigger bikes, I again understand that they are just farm tracks?

    Help

At the top of the page when I log in I have a little envelope showing, I have mail I presume. I have clicked on it and got a new screen where I have to log in to mail.

What log in do I use, is it just my user name "young1" then my password (which doesnt work) or do I need to put more in?

It should automatically access your inbox of private messages when you click on the envelope, you shouldn't need to login again...

Make sure you are logged in as young1 from the beginning though... Allow your browser to memorize your password and so on...

    good luck

I think your safe Stu, despite the bragging and bravado we really ride like Nana's.

On the Kaipara 200 last year I got passed by a 6 year old on a pit bike on the beach section!

I hunted him down later tho and stole his lollies.....revenge is sweet!

I had a ride yesterday on part of the day 2 route, rode from Waitara up through Purangi. The grader has been through and for my second time at riding 2 up on the 990 on gravel it was hard work. It would have been more fun on my DRZ I think.

The grader seemed to have avoided some of the windy hills as my wife was complaining last night of a sore butt after all the corrugations.

Hopefully by the end of June the loose gravel will have been swept away by cars and trucks.

We saw the grader later parked up so I presume it is doing all the roads out there.

    more drz fun

Took the DRZ out to Red Rocks on Friday, and much good fun was had, until I buried about a meter down on the beach. Still pretty impressed by the bike, that 80Kg off the beamer does make quite a difference. Found out one of the seals on the rear master cylinder piston was shot too, bummer. But all sorted and looking forward to taking it out for a proper ride. Also up for rides this weekend, and everything in between if anyone is keen
