    Howdy all

I have updated the info on the first post, it is the meeting place in Taumarunui for those riders that are meeting us there

I trust you have all booked your rooms at the hotel

    In regards to DAY 2
I am made a few "outs", just in case the weather is bad, or the heads are sore

    Cheers Scott

I'm not sure about that, I think friday we will get the tail end of the low with some light showers and SW winds, saturday northerly winds and cloud and probably the same on sunday.
I base this on Metvuw's forecast which I have always found fairly accurate (given that it's seven days out).
So, I'm optimistic about this, feel free to let me know on Saturday night how accurate this is!

At least some fine spells would be good

for those of you coming from the North on the Whanganui River Road (and with the time to spare) - I recommend you come as far South as Jerusalem - former commune of JK Baxter aka Hemi. The old church has been beautifully restored. A very tranquil spot. Looking forward to a great ride with you all Aslan

    how cold is cold ??

Quick question to ones experienced in the cold (where stuff starts getting frosty).

At what point do you need anti freeze in the radiator?

Pretty much at the point when water freezes windboy If you are going to use it, make sure you use an antifreeze made for aluminum engines (yes there are different antifreezes out there). Use a 50-50 water/antifreeze mix, NOT pure antifreeze. Pure antifreeze has a lower boiling point and higher freezing point than a 50-50 mix. I used to use only distilled water. You might think this a little anal, but minerals building up in your coolant system is not a good thing. Flush your coolant every other year, the corrosion preventatives and lubricants wear out over time and need to be replaced. But hey, I've got an oil/air cooled beasty now - so I can relax

Cheers Garry, just checked the radiator return reservoir and the fluid is definitely blueish, I'll assume it's antifreeze. Thanks for the destilled water tip, I get plenty of that from the dehumidifier these days... Congrats for the HP2 beast, I look forward to see it in action...

    later,

    water..

are there any river crossings on this trip?

I have a flash air filter thingy which replaces the whole side of the airbox with an extra air filter. The bike would drown out real quick in anything deeper than about 6-8".

    Hi there

No river crossings, but it looks like there has been plenty of rain up there, and we may have quite a bit of rain on the trip.
So you should be ok unless there is flooding
