That sounds good! Now we have lost our Adventure ride "Virginity" and Judi has seen that bikers are not a bad bunch of people we are both keen to go on many more adventures.

Look forward to hearing what you have planned!

..... very sorry tale indeed Neal. Great photos you guys, looks like all of you had a great time despite the rain. I'm pleased to hear everyone got there and got home safe and sound. I was up that way the weekend before over Moki and Kiwi Roads, plus a few others that many do not know about, and was looking forward to this trip as well. I made it 16kms out of Mana at which time I went from about 90kph to 90 degrees to the centre line in the space of a heartbeat. Fortunately very little opposing traffic, so no distractions while regaining some sort of order. I think Kerry thought I was showing off, but at least he stopped to see that all was okay. He did say from where he was sitting it all looked rather dramatic. I was too busy on the self preservation thing to be too worried at the time. Looking back on it, she could have turned out really bad. Thanks Kerry and Stephen for the assist I was not able to get the bike going again, so sat out the hour or so waiting for transport (thanks Motorad) on the porch at the car haulage place in Paekak. At least I had shelter (and my thermos of soup ) so was pretty fine about the whole thing. As it happens Kerry ended up about two kms up the road in a gravel layby, something also stuffed on his GS. So we had a good chat on the way back into town in the Transit. Popped in to talk with Michael D yesterday and the diagnosis on mine is quite sad. Seems that Herman forgot one or two of the cable ties on the day he was putting the HP together, consequently the wiring loom chaffed through on the frame, arced 5 or 6 wires and fried the CDI by the look of it. Loads of faults being returned and unable to clear, so more tests being done today with some gizmos being sent down from Auckland to confirm. Must say it's the first time since I've ever owned BMWs that I've encounted such a major problem. Previous bikes have all gone through many miles, mostly torturous adventure rides, without any problems so I'm just putting this down to a bit of rotten timing. Ah well, warranties are handy I suppose. I'll be up for Adventure Assault 3 when we get around to it. By all accounts, well done Scott for stitching this one together. Catch you all next time.

    Bugger about the bike Garry
    One day we will meet

I was looking forward to catching the HP in action (and of course I have heard the rider is pretty damn good too )

I am absolutely stoked with the GS650
It went like a dream, a few things I have discovered need doing to personalise it for me, but it was brilliant

Sticks to the tarmac, and can push it on the gravel (aye BusaJim )

Looking forward to the next one now

    Cheers Scott

So Garry the 90 degree thing was I presume she locked the back wheel in the heartbeat. As I read on I thought you were going to tell me it seized or had a gearbox failure but in the end as serious as the electrics frying are at least the mechanicals should still be OK.

Bummer mate, hope they sort it quick.

Sorry I missed this one busy doing other things, now off to Cairns on holiday so see you all in a while.
    Cheers

I got as far as Otaki when oil light came on, I was unsure of the cause so turned for home. I assumed I was last as no one passed me but just as I started the bike Aslan stopped to see if he could help but decided to head back.
Got to bottom of Haywards and she stopped all together, has any body got a manual with electics info as still not going.
good to see you all had a great time.

    cheers Pete.

Post your symptoms on the Chain Gang's Maintenance Forum (f650.com). They're pretty good at identifying problems.

Good question. I got lazy, and only took three boring shots.
It was so wet, that getting the gloves back on would have been a pain.
Don't know about the others though.

Yes, I have a repair manual. Doesn't have an overall wiring schematic but shows the routing of the loom and covers all the electrical equipment so would be easy enough to suss anything out. I'm suprised how little wiring there is actually.

Oddly enough I've just found I have a spare copy too so you can have that anytime you want.

    Good luck with the faultfinding.
