Look for one with an IMS tank on it or be prepared to carry some spare gas...the stocker anit got much range. there was a crowd selling them new for about 10K with full adv kit..tank, seat, rear rack & bark busters...can't remember who they were but they did advertise on TM, great deal I thought

They still are advertising on TM http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-405237801.htm

Whether I go new or second hand a larger tank is a must, as is a bash plate. The bike has to be able to take me to the less travelled places, but still be suitable as a learners bike for my wife.

Just looked at the specs for that one, I was in Freedom Suzuki in Palmy last thursday and they said that a bike can only be LAMS approved if its at factory spec, ie, no mods whatsoever to any part of the Intake, Exhaust or fuel system.

I believe then that they are wrong. There are no mods permitted that will increase the power to weight ratio. Adding things like a larger fuel tank, bash plate, etc. will decrease the power to weight ratio, not increase it.

yeah, the sales bloke was quite specific about the mods under the law when I was looking at a DR650 in there and he was saying because this bike had been altered in the exhaust and fuel system it was non LAMS compliant. The same bike is now on TM as compliant so bucketifino.
