While we're on the topic, would it be possible to use this and swap the plastics and front end onto my DT?
Also, would the expansion chamber fit? I imagine it's slightly less restricted than the DT one.

Hi All,
I'm keen to get an ADV bike and see some of the country as per the fun the rest of you on this forum are having.
The conundrum I have is this ... do I put the road kit on the WRF450 and trailer it to the start points of where I want to go, or do I get a purpose built ADV bike such as one of the following to do this :-
Interested in feedback on the pro's & con's of the following possibilities ...

Appreciate your thoughts.
Hi Dave
'Rosie' and 'that looks like fun' go everywhere on there wr250s. if i could i would definately consider the new 450 for an adv ride.... But the tenere or X challange would be a mighty fine steed for the longer haul... the tenere would be more of a pig off road in the rough stuff and the X challenge would be better but then the wr450 would dick them both offroad if you could afford 2 rides i'd keep the WR for all the shorter rides(day/weekenders) and rough stuff and get the Tenere for the longer trips. My XR's a pretty good allrounder but i do suffer from discomfort and lack of luggage on the bigger rides, where if i could have a bigger more comfy steed in the shed as well i'd be covered on all fronts.
maybe the X Challange would be the compremise between both worlds

Depends on what shape your adventuring takes. Consider the road rego plus get a second set of rims (cheap on Torpedo7) with a more road-oriented sprocket and maybe not rim locks (for smoother running) and whack some adventure tyres on. Easy swap from adv to trail then. No trailer required.
Plus what Dino said.
How far are you trailering? Short distances just ride the bike. Long distances you're missing out on good riding time, just ride the bike!

How many hours/km's on ya Austrian R ? Is it first set of valves ?
Dave not quite getting why you have to trailer your WR with a road kit ? Get the Big tank if the gas side of things an issue. Just flick some mitas E09's on and you will get good traction and mileage. Transalper on here goes all over the place on his WR250R - has an airhawk cushion to make it bit more comfortable - if ya going to just ride on shingle roads by a tank of a bike - if more of the beaten track use the lightness of the WR to your full advantage
7000km or 150 hrs. Still factory valves. EXC's have steel valves, not like taitanium in SX models. All my reading suggest that valves start to go west around 200 hours.
Were only just starting to close, from 0.12 to 0.10mm (think I got that right) or thereabouts movement, so could be premature call just yet but intention is to keep measuring clearances and when really start to go downhill will stick in some kibblewhite stainless jobbies. They should be good for many many more hours i.e. have read of others doing 900 hours with no work other than valves and routine maintenance.

Thanks for the replies.
Was thinking of doing some of the Sth lsland rides like Molesworth, Central Otago, etc ... maybe DB1K (from what I've seen on here, that looks really good).
Didn't think the WRF would be a good option for riding the Km's to get from Waikato down to Sth Island, hence my looking at other options ... maybe I should take your advice and chuck the road kit on it.
Not an adventure bike, but an adventure bike HID light
