Kneescraper down (13th May 07)

Well today I lived up to my name,

I decided to go for a little ride around town looking for good places to take photos of my bike. I decided to go up our local look out hill, Kaiti Hill. Any ways, I've been up there so many times I could do it will my eyes closed, or aleast thats what I thought. I come to a tight slow left hander taking you up the hill. I nomally would take this corner at around 30km/h, but today I decided to go alittle faster as I felt I could handle it....the rear came out and dumped me and the bike down on the ground....slidding.

The noise of plastic fairings scraping along the ground is one I will never forget... I picked the bike up, a few locals asked if I was ok and I gave them a thumbs up even thought I was feeling like shit!. Checked the bike over and rode home...its the first time I have ever wanted to get home while Ive been on a bike.

Checking the bike over, I will need new gear shift lever, clutch lever, repair and full repaint of the left hand side fairings, new side repeaters and a few other bits to tidy up.

My left knee is missing its skin and it BLOODY hurts and my right ankle is real sore....however I'm ok. I've learnt SO MUCH from this little slide...It's gona change me for the better! It was meant to happen so it did.

Hard way is right, sore and hard way! Ive learnt alot...I hate to think what it would be like at 100km/h.

Oof! Sorry to hear about it, but at least you are alive and kicking to tell us about it! Glad to hear you didn't come off the hill - I want to be the only one practicing for Crusty Demons ok?

At least your bike was ridable and it sounds like you got the right learning out of the experience.

How did you do your knee in like that? You weren't wearing knee armour/cordura/leathers? Owie ow ow... if it still hurts like the dickens, go get it checked out, so ACC can be part of it all.

I think your little kneescrape incident makes the six stitches in my leg seem insignificant (which it is!)

I was wearing Dickies pants...so thats why my knee is munted, my next purchase will be proper riding pants.

My bike is still rideable however it will next some money thrown at it before I take it out again!

I admit I cant ride, hence why Im learning. Ive got no problem admitting that...you learn from mistakes, isnt life great like that. Plus I get to spend countless hours with my motorcycle fixing her, havent you seen that add on TV with the father painting the fence with his son. Well thats me and my motorcycle...

Good to hear that you are ok.

But please do go to the GP or local A & E and get yourself checked out.
If its hurting real bad now it will only feel so much worse later on tonight.
Get down there before the local sportplayers hog up the A & E waiting room.

So you didnt start the fire up there on Kaiti Hill... when you came off ?

That Marae is at the very bottom of the hill..so wasnt me, I might go have alook from a distance though...sounds interesting.

Ive learnt why people wear proper gear, I thought I was wearing safe clothes for 50km/h zone but boy, was I wrong! Ive already sanded back the fairings prepping them for paint..I will get a new clutch lever and gear lever this week, paint the fairings etc and I'll be back out in no time!
